Just some baskeball chatter...

So all my 12 y/o wanted for his birthday was to see Jimmer (Sacramento Kings) play live. I happened to be in Phoenix whoring myself to a pain device company the weekend they were playing the Suns - so I flew him out and we had great tickets.

Jimmer played 10 minutes and stood around the whole time - kinda dissapointing. He was SO FUN to watch in college.

I hope he does okay in the pros - he is having a rough start - I kinda feel bad for him (but not really because...holy crap...he is making 2 mil/year, he has reached his LIFETIME dream, and he has accomplished something amazing before he turned 23, how bad can Ireally feel for the kid...).

Nash was totally amazing - so it made it worth it. My son felt the same way despite the poor Jimmer showing. (I had such a kick out of him wearing his Jimmer jersey in a crowd of Suns fans - having this 12 y/o kid boo when the other fans were yelling, or yell support when the stands were quiet...it was cool.)

Anywhooooo....

Life time dream of mine....to be in vegas for March Madness, and somehow, unplanned, it is going to happen. I'll be there for Sweet Sixteen...Yahoooo!!!!!!

I'd like to loose a ton of money by betting on some games...but never have done that. Is it complicated? Any suggestions for a newbie? What do I do?

I'll have my eye on SDSU's Jamaal Franklin. That guy can JUMP!

Parlay or teaser a few "sure things" and +/- a decent bet on a dog. Hit both and you get paid, hit one and win a little.

The book at the Gold Coast always seems to have slightly better odds on dogs than the other books in town.

A 12 always beats a 5.

And stay out of the champagne room.

My advice is to do some test bets before you arrive in Vegas. Keep a spreadsheet and mess around with different bets in the first and second rounds. Come up with a principle or two that you use to guide your bets. For example, does the spread account for teams playing close to home or having to travel across the country? Don't go crazy with the number of bets--I think 2 bets is better than say 7 bets. The more bets you make the more you play into the oddsmaker's hands.
