Feel free to move this into the MCAT forum if it fits better there.

Anyway. 2015. Gross. The new MCAT is coming out. I'm planning on taking the 2014 MCAT, and applying during my senior year. How are adcomms and medical schools going to compare my 2014 MCAT score to those taking the new 2015 MCAT (since I'll technically be in their year)?
Do you think there is going to be an urgency amongst a lot of people to take the last MCAT in 2014?
Does this means I'm going to be screwed in regards to studying with a company since they'll be focusing on the new 2015 MCAT?

My advice is to take that 2014 one asap. Schools won't look down on you for it at all. I'm not sure how the test prep companies will deal with it. Actually I'd really like to know because I teach for one of them. My guess is that they will offer two versions of the class until the transition is over. It's gonna be really hard for them to find teachers to teach the 2015 one since none of us have taken that test and probably won't feel like studying for the new version. I know I won't. 🙂

I'm also wondering about this.

So just to clarify....

If I take the 2014 mcat spring/summer of junior year but plan to take a gap year, that will mean I'll be applying with the first round of new mcat takers. I know now that med schools generally accept an mcat score up to three years old prior to applying but will this change sense most people will have taken the new mcat that cycle? Are they going to have a problem with it because they will have to compare the old scores to the new scores? 🙁

I wonder how the 2015 MCAT scores will be...there is way more prep material for the existing MCAT. I'd imagine the scores will somewhat reflect..

The new MCAT will have a section on sociology/psychology, yes? I realize this is probably unpopular, but I think that's a *fantastic* development.

That's exactly what I'm worried about.

Probably a lot lower..but don't they curve? So I guess it wouldn't matter. 😎 A lot of people will finish that MCAT feeling ridiculously stupid. Guess the smarties will do well though.

I'd imagine the old scores will last for 3 years (as usual), and you can apply with them along with the new 2015 MCAT people --after all, they wouldn't offer it in 2014 if you're not allowed to do that. Whether or not there's going to be any correlation, we won't really know.

Urgency? No, not really, I think it'll be a normal year, maybe a little more applicants, but that's only cause there's always going to be more applicants as time progresses.
