Hey guys,

I have compiled a bunch of random questions that I was curious about...

1) I wouldn't wish this on no one, but what happens if a dental student broke his or her arm during the latter years of dental school? Depending on the recovery time, would most schools still allow you to graduate on time? Has anyone heard about a situation like this before or where a student had to permanently defer dental school entirely because of an injury?

2) Most dental schools have transportation fees. What exactly is this, a shuttle or something for those that do not possess a personal vehicle?

3) When you take out loans, most of them would be from the feds. Other than tuition, fees, room and board, are you able to use the loans for other personal things such as car expenses, etc?

4) I get depress every time I see a "chance me" or a "school list" thread since the OP stats are often pretty good. Seems like many here has like a 3.7GPA+, 21DAT+, with 100's of hours shadowing and volunteering applying to all the schools I would be interested in. 🙁 This can't be the usual statistics of an average applicant can it?

5) What are some of the cheapest dental schools in the US for non-residents?

6) Why do some schools like LECOM for example, still have lower than average acceptance stats? LECOM from what I've learned is a safe bet for most applicants, so do the better applicants decline their invites here or something?

7) Anyone have a clue on the retention rates of dental school?

8) Sorry for the stupid questions.

Thanks.

3.) if you take out enough loans to cover not just tuition but also living expenses then you can your the loans for your living expenses on car payments, just like you did in college. (the money goes into your bank account via direct deposit)

4.) i've seen both ends of the spectrum.. high stats not getting in and low stats getting in and vice versa. It's everywhere. They view applicants as a whole not just by their stats.

5.) none are really that cheap unfortunately.. sorry.

6.) yeah it's a safety school for a lot of people. PBL might be a factor, too.

7.) very high. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/ranking-of-ds-repeating-1st-year-withdrawls.657375/

Can international students get student loans via the US Federal student loan program?

1. No idea, I would think that you would still have to meet the same clinical requirement.

2. Their estimate for cost of car or public transportation they made so you can get loan for it.

3. What you see on the estimate is what you get.

4. Since you are a Canadian applicant, you need high stats like that to get into dental school. Competition is higher due to much fewer spots being available.

5. Even cheapest schools for Canadians will run you like $350k+. Sorry.

6. Yeah, people with multiple acceptances tend to drop Lecom because it's not good for its cost.

7. As in people dropping out of dental school? Not high.

8. Not stupid, I wouldn't even have bothered answering or would have made really snarky remark if your questions were stupid.
