hello,

i just got a recommendation from a dentist that i shadowed.

surprisingly, he let me read what he wrote to me today in his office, and he

let me have a copy of it and he sealed another copy in the envelop.

everything seemed find, but he mentioned a specific dental school that i

will be applying. is it okay, since i will be applying to like 10 or even 15 schools.

i mean, i am worried, what should i do

He mentioned it how? Was it a reference to where he went or something else? If he wrote it like it's a letter meant specific for that school, you should not use it. Ask him if he'll remove the reference. If he doesn't, discard that letter. Schools will definately interpret it as voicing you're number one choice.

I would not recommend sending a school specific letter out to all schools no matter how vaguely the school was mentioned.

The ideal situation would to go through a letter forwarding service (through your school, or something like interfolio). This way you can send the specific letter to the school that was mentioned, and a more general one to the remaining schools, giving you the best of both worlds.

my dentist wrote that specific school probably because i mentioned that

school in my personal statement.

I wrote that in my personal statement that i did some volunteer assisting with student doctors at specific dental school which was closed to my undergraduate school,

is it okay to even mention what and which dental school I went to assist?

I would err on the side of safety and not specifically mention the dental school by name in a personal statement. You don't want anyone to think you're showing a bias for one school. Plus I don't think it's necessary to mention the school by name. Maybe say it like "assisted at a nearby dental school" instead. In the EC part of the application you will name the school out specifically. But several people may read your PS and you don't want them to cue in on the name of another school.

I would have your dentist write you a new letter, omitting said reference. He let you read it - shouldn't be a big deal.

ditto. I'm sure your dentist won't mind since he let you read the letter first hand. All he has to do is just simply delete the sentence 🙂
