I am currently considering podiatry and was wondering if any practicing podiatrists could give me their take on the profession. Would you do it over again? What are the pros/cons? Would you say podiatry allows one to experience a better family life than an MD? Family life is very important to me and it seems like podiatry allows one to not have as strict as a schedule as an MD, plus schooling is not quit as long! Anyways, I know this is a great career, but am seeking input from a podiatrist. I am a little confused as what medical profession to pursue and would appreciate your feedback. Thank you very much for your help.

Personally I'd do it again, no doubt. I'm all about the family life, and my family is better than everyone else's (ha ha).

There are already numerous lengthy discussions that address the rest of your questions, many on this first page. Scroll down a few threads.

school is not shorter it is about the same as an MD.

Most pod schools require an undergraduate degree (4)

Professional school (DPM), (4)

2-3 year residency.

10-11 Years.

I'm considering podiatry because it is easy to get into Pod school, and because podiatrists have a pretty large scope of practice compared to other health science professionals: dentistry, pharmacy, optometry....

I'm not much of a lifestyle person, my work is my life MUAHAHHAHHA.

PEOPLE. This question is for PRACTICING PODIATRISTS to answer. A pre-pod does not need to answer this, let alone a high school kid who hasnt even experienced college.

Why do pre-pods continue to post unneccessary stuff in this sub forum?

And to the person that wants to make a smartass comment about pods/students posting in lesser forums...shut up. NatCH, DPMpod, PADDPM and others are more than welcome to post in pre-pod and pod sub forums

woop woop, look at bud, regulatin', bahaa with the searches and bud with the reprimands, we are all finding our niche in this little online community...i suppose my niche is being odd? anyways id say people post things that are unecessary because they want to be nice?....go prepods!...

i agree people, unless your comment is informed and on point, keep it to yourself....can't believe i just said that

If you are unsure about podiatry, I would wait and see what is going on with the profession. Right now, there is going to be a residency shortage affecting class of 2010. If it gets bad, then it wouldnt be a smart idea to get into podiatry.

Hey, you could have been more polite airbud. I'm sorry; I did not see the stipulation.

Anyway, I did not even answer any of the OP's questions. I just clarified his misconception regarding podiatric education.
