Best EMR for podiatry practice
I'm interested in hearing more about what you hated about ModMed. They made a really aggressive push for us to adopt them. I wasn't particularly impressed or disappointed, just knew it would be a massive upheaval in my business to crossover EHRs for not enough potential benefit. Currently I use eCW, which meets my needs, and that's all I have to say about it.
ModMed is terribly designed. Took me 5x as long to do notes and we used to have ECW at the practice before that. I'm not a fan of ECW at all either, but ModMed is that much worse.
It seems that nobody can clearly say which one is the "best" EMR for our purposes? They all seem to suck in their own way is what I'm understanding.

Same. I use eCW. Meets my needs. Affordable for a solo practice. I also like healow for booking appointments.
There's a thread of same /similar name from a year or two ago.
eCW is popular now, was on really slow servers back when I'd used it. All have pro cons obviously.
I do kareo (Tebra now)... most notes one page, eRx, cost is ok, integrated billing is good, works for us.

I'm using NextGen but I wouldn't recommend it. Doing follow up notes is slow
I liked nextgen when I used it for a couple years. Simple to chart on. I didnt notice it being slow.
The limited characters on HPI and plan section was my biggest complaint. I was in the process of board certification and I wasnt able to really put my thoughts on paper due to character limitations.
We switched to Athena and lost tons of money. Athena was better to document on. But apparently the billing part results in massive decline in collections. Athena may have fixed this by now. But it was something along the lines of 10% loss in collection after switching to Athena fron NextGen.

I'm starting with ECW and you have to go into it eyes wide open.
1. Yes - the sales person just wants you to know about the monthly cost.
2. However, there's always going to be a cost associated with credit card processing. Everyone likes getting their 2% credit card reward. No one likes being the merchant eating the fee.

3. If you send out paper statements there's likely a cost associated with them too.
4. ECW wants you to pay 4cents per fax over 100 (inbound and outband) if you use their fax line. I didn't port mine over and I'm not going to give out the number they are trying to create for me.
5. Learning a bit more about how all this works I continue to stand by not using Athena. Paying Athena 8.07% for Medicare payments that posted straight to your account without any effort just doesn't make any sense.
