hey guys\....

well over the last few days the forum has kinda stagnated....with the two threads for those taking the exam in July and Dec almost saturated I thought I'd put up a refreshing one.....of course some people feel non-dental topics are not welcome here so if the general consensus is that, then Henna please dump this thread in the trash....

I feel we have had the most disastrous and unexpected results in the Indian elections.....so now we have Sonia as the PM....and Mulayam/Laloo as deputy PM....wow!And Govinda as minister for Entertainment......what the hell is wrong with the educated class in India.......the sole reason why Vajpayee and co have lost is that the so-called urban educated middle class just did not bother to turn up and vote....what do u guys feel about this?

Very true gpg!!But people like me who are Banjara's don't even have their name in the voters list

well......will the GOVT last.......with CPI ......that has very experienced and hard core politicians........ha we spent around 1000 crores on election thios year.................so many of us could have got into IDP........what a waste......that too having sonia as PM......MTV one tight slap for all indian politicians......JAI VANDE MATE ROME.............

i am going to miss atal bihari vajpayee. he was a good PM. his poems were pretty great too. are we going to see the rise of the dynasty again with rahul gandhi etc. continuing on and on....hmmm......

Sonia that was a real surprise, well i dont know a lot about the indian politics but never expected to see sonia as primeminster.
Well what i read through the papers it mentioned that there so not much done for the urban areas and thats y there was resentment in people for vajapi that beign the reason people voted against vajpai.Correct me if i am wrong. So u r saying the people didnt turn up to vote.what was the % of the people who voted?
p.s r u serious about the govinda thingi u mentined

the total voting was barely around 50 % or so.....and in the urban areas it was only 40 %....that is pathetic....add to it the fact that there are a lot of slums in most Indian cities and the total % of educated voters goes further down.....to say 30 %.....BADDDDD!!!!

Was just kidding about Govinda......the way things have been going today almost everyone is supporting Sonia....so we are all set to have a non-indian PM!

What an arrogant post! First the 'urban educated middle class' is less than 20-25% of the population; is an election going to be decided by a quarter of the electorate? Also respect the maturity and the deep voice of the Indian voter and the democratic system. It is 'mat-dan' in the true sense -- the voters have spoken. If more than half of the country is living on less than a couple of dollars a day, then I am glad they voted and let everyone know that hubris campaigns based on half-truths are not going to sway them. I think India has more to fear from the 'urban-educated middle-class' than the illiterate, rural lower class... after all they ARE India.

I personally feel this is an unnecessary post.sonia is originally an Italian but you should see the way she respects the Indian culture ,the way she dresses etc.No matter where she is from she is a perfect indian women now .All that we should care about is Is she going to do a good job as a PM ?we never know she might be one of the best PMS .

i agree, i dont care if any italian or non indian becomes the prime minister. if he or she does a good job and brings progress to the country.. well i am satisfied. but the question is will any indian or non indian politician rise above petty politics to abolish corruption, bring education to all , uplift the poor and generally improve the soceity. tht remains to be seen.

WELL THIS IS FOR ALL INDIANS......NOT IN INDIA.......WHO ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS........
1.EVEN WHEN RAJIV GANDHI WAS PM SONIA HAD ITALIAN SECURITY WHEN SHE WENT TO ITALY INSTEAD OF INDIAN........AND YES ITALIAN SECURITY MOCKED INDIAN OFFICERS BY SAYING......"LOOK WIFE OF UR PM BELEVES US MORE THAN U"
2.SHE DOES NOT KNOW NATIONAL ANTHEM
3.20 YEARS IN INDIA SHE CAN NOT SPEAK HINDI
4.WEARING A SAREE DOES NOT MAKE U AN INDIAN
5.SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO ANSWER MEDIA IMEDIATELY AFTER THE VICTORY OF CONGRESS SHE IS BAD AT HINDI .....
TOO MUCH FOR BEING A GANDHIAN......

Why r u calling it disastrous? Isn't it good that Indians got rid of fundamentalist party, responsible for killing so many muslims. Now we have a secular government.
hmmnnnn......well....is congress secular.......who says........did not expect from u .......operation blue star........was that secularism.... indira gandhi was PM............or should i say........having muslim candidates MAKE A GOVT IS SECULARISM......and yes for those who say india is secular........is it actally secular.........who is safe here......?????
its also disaster in the sense that will congress be able to take any decisions with so many amatuers in party and coilation with players like......harkishan singh surjeet and laloo prasad yadav......

I would still prefer Sonia Gandhi over the likes of Narendra Modi, Murali Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharathi etc.
Meetlife- I know Operation Bluestar is still a raw nerve for the sikhs. But at the same time, i think it was still necessary considering the fact that Bhrindanwale refused to surrender and continued the arms buildup inside the Golden Temple. If not for the strong government action, we would still be having terrorism in Punjab. As far Sonia not knowing National Anthem, How do we know whether she knows it or not? Never knew Narendra Modi's word are taken as gospel by educated fellow citizens. And believe me killing 2000 innocent people cannot be the pride of gujrat or India for that matter
As far as the reasons for the defeat of BJP is concerned, I don't think there is anybody to blame, but the BJP party itself. When you do a campaign like 'India Shining' showing the economic prosperity of the urban rich and middle class, at a time when farmers are committing suicide, it is bound to backfire.

You know if Sonia Gandhi becomes PM whose going to be most happy?
The colombian(Sri Lanka) Girl friend of Rahul Gandhi...!!because one day even she might become the Prime minister.. 😀

Hi Pinktooth,
Nice one 😀
Btw, Rahul Gandhi's girlfriend is not from Sri Lanka, she is from Columbia (South America) There was a report in one of the newspapers quoting Rahul Gandhi that she is from Spain.

Whew! what a *&%%@@ relief! Sonia stepped down. At least somethings going for the indian govt. and we can show some face to the rest of the world.
Its a damned shame that India being the second largest democracy in the world has such a big flaw in its constitution that allows anyone to become its Prime Minister. In no other democratic country in world will you find a leader who is not a native of that country. Come on people, She cant even speak or read the language.
I guess most of "urban india" and the middle class has learnt its lesson as to what happens when they dont vote. Hopefully the next govt. will be a better govt. : BJP or Samajwadi Party.

I saw in the news today that Mrs Sonia has decided not to become the PM..I am really glad!!!! But something tells me that she has managed to kill 2 birds with one stone...She has made people like myself and Meetlife shutup now that she wouldn't become the PM and also gained lotsa symapthy from the common people.

I for one am not against her being the PM just because of her origin. But the fact that she took sooo much of time before accepting the Indian Citizenship still lingers in my mind. I have posted this in some other thread too ...Sonia married Rajiv in 1968 and was eligible to become Indian citizen 5 years later yet she did NOT become Indian citizen till 1984 i.e. 16 years after her marriage. This late bloom of Sonia's love for India
also was out of political consideration. In 1984, Rajiv, was heir apparent and most likely next Prime Minister. It would be awkward for a PM to have a foreigner wife. Voila, Sonia became an Indian Overnight. If she was really interested in becomming an Indian, she could have done it years before. The worst part is that she still hasn't given up her Italian citizenship and is presently holding a dual citizenship. I still cannot digest the fact that inspite of having such a humongous population, we still have to beg and plead someone from outside to become a Prime-minister..even after she has declined the post?
How many of you know that during the 1971 war, while all Indians stood ready to fight for the Indian cause Sonia Maino and her husband Rajiv Gandhi went on vacation in
Italy.

I was also wondering..the BJP ruled India for just 5 years ...I accept not much was done for the poor...but the Golden triangle project, the fastest growing economy,Fighting the Kargil war and earning the world's reputation, the highways built, the decision to continue with the Nuke test and SURVIVE the sanctions with ease somehow makes me feel good! 😉
Someone had been quoted in Iraq "Saddam might have been a %$%$%^$..But atleast he was our &^^%^&* 😀 Sau me se nabbhe baimaan phir bhi mera bharat manan

This move by Sonia Gandhi amply defines the word "politics" to the ignorant common man.....yesterday she meets her allies, gets letters of support and today morning goes and meets the president. He,as he should, invites her to form the next Govt.

Yesterday, the market crashed like never before. Not because she was going to become the PM,but because of stupid statements of the Communists like closing down Divestment and all that.Luckily Dr.Manmohan Singh(He is a doctorate from Oxford!!!!) steps in and halts the slide.

So today she announces that her inner being is saying that she should not be PM!and that she is reluctant to do so herself and that she is stepping down.UP goes the market, but that is because she lets it "slip" that Dr.Singh is likely to be the man, just to see if he is nursing any ambitions himself,so she knows that she has to put him in his place.

Almost like a well sync orchestra like-minded people like Mulayam and co(who called him any way....Amar Singh gate crashed her dinner)declare that they will support only her as PM.I feel all she is doing is testing the waters to see if there is any one who has any last minute plans to stop her from becoming the PM.

I am quite sure she will eventually become PM.If not tomorrow then some time later in the same Govt,or may be in the next election.or the one after that. What ever! She is a TRUE politician!Way to go Mrs.Gandhi!

I beg to differ Redicon.. I definitely don't wanna have an Illiterate guy in any post! I am sure Mr Laloo Prasad...a guy who thought of banning 'Laughter clubs' in Bihar coz he thought it spoils the environment..would never do good for India.

IF SHE DOES........THEN WHAT ABOUT ITALIAN CONSCIENCE????????MAY BE SHE WONT......YES CHANCES ARE..........RE ELECTION........

ya , there is nothing mare pathetic than Sonia becoming PM. I went to an Indian store last week and the lady at the counter said that other customers are making fun by saying- your are under foreign rule again.
I am relieved to know that Sonia will not be the PM . Lets hope for the best.

Manmohan Singh Zindabaad. I felt really bad when BJP lost. But now I am not feeling that down..He is a good guy. I just hope he doesn't become Sonia's or the left's puppet

What is the real reason behind Sonia's decision. Is it really as she says her inner voice??????I read an article in one of the papers which says that the president asked Sonia Gandhi for some clarifications after which she decided not to be the PM right after she met him.
I really liked the clarification Sushma Swaraj asked for,she said a person in defense cant marry a foreigner without permission then how can a person who would control the entire nuclear program of our country be a foreigner. something to think about

Arnold is a foreign born and still governor of california, nobody is complaining here..

Hiya Rajkang. Arnold may be the governer...But He is NOT ALLOWED to run for the post of the President in the US since he was not born over there! 😎

Well..Sonia was the leader of the opposition...we were not complaining to that. I don't think anyone here has a problem with her becomming a governer either....but not a President or a Prime Minister... 👎 👎 👎

Folks, firstly sonia is not the real name ,it is anotonia.then the only reason she took Indian citzenship is because there is a rule in india ,that ppl in high positions cannot marry foriegn a citizen. To my knowlwdge this rule was bent only once for our ex president KR Narayanan.Rajiv Gandhi could have bend the rule too ,but he had to swear in real quick after his mother's assassination and even if not why not change citizenship if you are married to India's PM.Rajiv Gndhi in 1989 passed an amendment stating that if a person is married to Indian citizen ,then he/she is eligible for citizenship. So,I wonder what is the basis on which Mrs Gandhi become an Indian citzen in 1984.Some lawyer has even filed a petition in supreme court with these facts to stop sonia gandhi from being PM.The only reason Mrs Sonia Gandhi decided to back out is the fact that she cannot command India without too much contorversy or without even speaking the language.I am glad sense prevailed.Though on one side ,we can call it true democracy where there is no discrimination against anybody to go up,but for argument sake it is heights of ineffeciency. In USA there is a rule foriegn born individuals cannot run for president. We lack such defined rules as many of our able politicians themselves were born in Pakistan. So,I dont even think that rule will ever come in effect anytime soon.
Another request ,to all my countrymen, pls do not prtray India as some rural, farming community.I do agree majority of Indians live like that. But ,in todays world packaging a product to sell is necessary.Learn this from America. Can any one tell me ,that you all came to this country and what you saw here is exactly the same you saw in India on TV.My answer is hell no!!!!Believe me, I have lived a long life outside India and realized that what we lack is a structure to work on.We cannot have laloo prasad yadav as PM or mulayam singh yadav as Defense minister.PERIOD 🙄 .Manmohan sigh is an intelligent man and deserves to be where he is.Let us do this with the spirit that, may the best man rule.India is way far from stability ,but it is a developing nation.I personally hate to hear ppl refer to it as undeveloped.Well,I still cant believe only 50% plus in India votes. That means ,our leaders are there by virtue of the old saying,"in the land of the blind ,one eyed is the king".I mean they dont have a total positive mandate ,but just enough to make it there.
Now folks, lets get back to NBDE.

Well said Drshy44..
My inner voice tells me that the decision not to become the PM was not because of Mrs Gandhi's Inner voice...but more coz of the noise which people made {personally, am glad that they did!} She realized that the carrot was too big to chew.

well said drshy44.....India has way to go.I personally think choosing Manmohan Singh is a very sensible decision though I'd very much have liked to see BJP on the seat...what with the victory at Kargil and much needed stand on the NUKE tests...but, all that's done is done...Let the best man win and lead the country in the right direction....In the end all that matters is whether the counrty is in the right hands...

NUKE,kargil ,I Tech, whatever. We ,wouldnt be here if our country was doing good.My parents moved out back in the days, not for luxury, but to make a living. So are miliions of Indians doing the same today. That means we are still lacking many things there or is it just that we lack jobs and money?or is it that nothing has changed from the time my parents left?I still am proud to be an Indian, though I sometimes question my own sense of judgement on this. But moral issues like this can wait as I still am on the Indian boat of trying to make a living.

yes.......now the question is if something poses a threat to indian security....will u accept that???well for so many years she lived under the shadow of bofors.....where is the answer to loyality..... as far is corruption and neoptism is concerned.....well and to that like US indians do not go about torturing naked helpless people..........our presidents do not go screwing around......and right now we have.....a doctrate from oxford as our PM and i need not say anything abt the presidents qualifications..........so here we are with the best in the world............

well....i guess all taht we need to express is beyond the scope of this forum....and moreover i guess soon we will be into retaliation.......so leave it..........anyways ....
rajkang.............all the best....
may GOD bless u....
