Ok so i was just thinking about something. Obviously the ultimate goal here is to get accepted to d-school. but first, you clearly need those interviews..and getting as many as possible pre-dec 1st is something all of us want. I was just kinda curious what all you guys think would be like the "ideal" number of interviews to get pre-dec 1st to basically all you to put your mind at ease about getting in. Yes you want as many as you can get, and getting even 1 puts you in a good spot, and yes many get interivews after dec 1st...I get all that. I was just thinkin to myself what would everyone say is probably the minimum number of interviews you should get pre-dec 1st that would allow you to think "ok there's NO WAY i'm not going to get in when dec 1st rolls around." see what this process does? everything becomes trivialized haha...damn

I have been "at ease" since . . . nine.

I am cozy with 12. I will actually drop the last three. So nine. Nine is my final answer. Nine.

wow did we both just say nine? are you reading my mind?

I am pretty comfortable w/ 4. At the two schools I have interviewed with so far they have both said that pre-Dec. 1st they interview @ 300 and accept 200 giving me a 66% shot. I think I interview pretty well so my chances should be better than that / school. Over four schools an acceptance is very likely to fall out somewhere.

I got 7 so far but I am pushing back Pittsburgh until December as it isn't in my top 5. By then I'm sure I'll be accepted somewhere I really want to go (ie top 3) and I can withdraw my app.

I personally would say 3 is a safe bet but I'm doing well with 6. As long as you don't act all weird of course. 😛

What's your top choice? I have 5 so far but would love to trade a few for yours..LOL

I hesitate to say such a thing. But I will tell you what's at the bottom of my list: Colorado.

1 here but give me 3 more.

I applied to only five schools, and I have three interviews two of which are before Dec 1st and one in january. I think I am at ease, but I need to go to my first interview this week and look at how I do at the interview. The only problem I am having with my coming interviews is I am not sure I can answer the question, ' so why did you get this grade in this class' type of questions. Does anyone wanna share a general way to look at these types of questions?
I mean I didn't do well mostly because the course was a hard science class. But that is not good enough is it?

I wouldnt say I'm overconfident...but I'm happy having 4 pre-dec1st interviews. Especially because 2 of them are in-state.

I only applied to 7 so I'm happy at this point...november is still going to be the longest month of my life..I don't care how many interviews you have, nothing matters until that first acceptance rolls around.

so schools usu interview bout 100 extra students than there class size b4 dec 1st...and if u behave all normally u are pretty much set...but then they don't accpet all those students?? how do they go about rejecting few of them??:scared:

100% interview invites for me before dec 1. boo ya grandma

Get a life! Nine interviews??? U kidding me....

It almost seems that you have nothing better to do with your time so you apply to every school in the country! Pick few that you really want to go to, and hope some of them call u back. If they see that you applied to that many, the chances of them wasting their time on sending you a letter of acceptance, when you can get five bizzillion other ones, are pretty great. They will know how many schools you applied to. If you are serious, and really want a particualr school, and have scores to back it up, even one interview is all you need to feel comfy. Two is even better. But NINE... how much money do u have to waste around on hotels!

No offense... ur daddy is probably a dentist.

is there an option where if you have too many interviews then you can donate some to someone that doesn't have one, either from their top choice or any school at all? if there is, someone needs to show me some love.

I don't know if you are talking to me or ihd, but I will defend us both.

We are getting in and we will have choices. So back off pal. With the competition as fierce as it is today, you better apply to as many as you can afford.

And no daddy is not a dentist. I have no idea who my dad really is. Thanks, you are very tactful.

There is no substitute for hard work and dedication and I was not about to let Louisville or VCU keep me from fulfilling my dreams. What if I had only applied to those 2? Then I would be screwed. There is an element of dumb luck involved.

My stats speak for themselves, I don't need your advice. Thanks though.👎

What about UNLV apaul?

i have unlv listed on aadsas saying that I am invited for an interview but I decided not to go as it was my backup school in case I didnt hear from other schools

 @ CSI, way to enter the forum with some class, by bashing two of the most prolific and recognized posters who also happen to be two of the most competitive applicants on said forum.

I'm pretty confident with 6 interviews, but you never know, I still get butterflies every once in a while

ofcourse it might have higher % to get one from the 9 choices.

But for me 2 is enough

We all have multiple interviews and still paranoid. And to CSI, even at people's top schools, weird stuff happens (like a mental fart) and could lead to us not being accepted at them therefore the more interviews the better! Frankly, I'm confident with one as long as I know the interview went really well and long.

I can't imagine the pressure that would be on you if you only had one interview. Now that would really be "super bowl nerves". I remember my first interivew, I was so tense and uncomfortable. I have learned to relax a ton since then.

To those with first interviews yet to come, relax you'll do fine. 👍

i got 7 interviews...but after the first 5... I don't really don't like to sleep at the airport and have random kids poking at me anymore. Can't say for sure i'm comfortable with 5, but 5 is a decent number. I'll go to the other two after dec.
I think 9 is a bit excessive, but think about how many spots will be opened when people like these withdraw from dental schools...good for people who are interviewing after dec 1st. Cheer up everyone 🙂

It wasn't bashing, just a reality check. If u have such good stats then applying to one or two schools that u are really set on should be sufficient. Applying to more makes u look as if u question your stats.

👍 I hear ya!

i can test paternity.....

i've got 3 pre dec 1 interviews right now and 1 post dec 1 interview. i think if i just got two more post dec 1 interviews i'd feel close to content. right now i think i have a good shot at getting into at least one of the 3 i've interviewed at, so i think if i get an acceptance come dec 1 from one of them then i'll only go to interviews that are at the top of my list.
3 pre dec 1
3 post dec 1
thats what i want

Thanks for the reality check, but I am extremely comfortable where I am at. I have sold it at every interview. Schools only know how many places you applied to if you tell them. Every school knows I would go there.

By the way, If I applied to only 2 schools then I would be screwed. I applied to VCU and Louisville and they have randomly ignored me. So again, bad advice from CSI. Apply to as many as you can afford regardless of how cocky you are. When offers start coming your way then it is time to cut schools.

CSI, how many did you apply to and how many interviews do you have?

kiddies. we need to relax. i agree with CSI to an extent- be confident in yourself, applying to 20+ schools makes you seem the exact opposite of confident (not saying you're lacking confidence, but it does give that impression)...but, just be happy with whatever you've decided to do, and stop telling other people that what you're doing is the "right" way... (you told me that my 7 applications is conservative, every single person (other than ppl on this site) have told me that its plenty, and anything more than 10 is nutty, so there are differences of opinion, nobody is right or wrong.

Hey we all want to get in. Some of us want to apply to all schools that we can think of, some of us can't afford it. I applied to 3 schools got 2 interviews. I am broke. More power to you if you can make that "investment".

I hope you get into a dental school you worked hard for it.. obviously. I hated filling out one application, talk about nine! That is what I call hard work. Don't get mad at me, I am oppinionated. Do what you think is the best. And they DO KNOW how many schools you've applied to. They do know how many times you took DAT, they even know if you took MCAT along with DAT. Take my word for it, or just ignore it.

And I was not joking when I said I can test paternity.... that is the easy task u learn at the CSI school.

Good luck ppl, Dec 1st is around the corner!!! 😉

well just to add something here...dental schools do not know how many schools you applied to. I called AADSAS and specifically asked that question, and they said that a list of all the schools you applied to is not part of your application. So yes, the only way a school will know how many places you applied is if you tell them.

I have 3 Pre-Dec 1st, and 3 Post...
Still not totally comfortable, but hopeful.. i guess it would take at least 2 more Pre-Dec 1st so that i would be "sure"

I'm happy with one. If I can't be at Harvard, then I want to be at my state school.

got a hat trick myself pre dec 1. feelin purty groovy so far-- ask me in dec. I do not expect any more interviews post dec, but who knows. Good Luck to everyone regardless of the number of interviews you have -Congrats!!! We have all worked our bums off now all we have to do is wait- that can't be that hard can it???😎 🙂 😉

yea! I second this idea!
