Hey guys,

What songs are you listening to, to help keep you motivated and going through this application process?

Right now I'm listening to "It's my life" by Bon Jovi.

Any recommendations?

Royksopp-triumphant
interpol's antics (the entire CD) got me through the MCATS.

hmmm let's look at itunes, what's gotten me through this garbage?

chris cornell - seasons
pearl jam - faithful
a perfect circle - gravity
alice in chains - don't follow
shins - past and pending
genesis - land of confusion
pink floyd - nobody home

the following albums have carried me through the MCATs and application process:

wilco & billy bragg - mermaid avenue volume II
bright eyes - i'm wide awake, it's morning
tom waits - mule variations
cake - pressure chief
elliot smith - from a basement on a hill
elvis costello - the delivery man
josh rouse - 1972
system of a down - mezmerize
leonard cohen - the future
mos def - black on both sides
norah jones - feels like home
they might be giants - the spine

Avenged Sevenfold's new CD "City of Evil" is incredible and everytime I listen to it I think of reading threads on SDN. It's kind of funny how tightly I associate songs with whatever I was doing while I listened to it. It's a great CD.

Guano Apes- "Open Your Eyes" is also frequently playing, as are Nappy Roots and Trick Daddy. And then there's my all-time favorite song "The Inevitable Return of the Great White Dope" by Bloodhound Gang, which is ALWAYS on my playlist.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold

The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we'll do the rest

The blue bus is callin' us
The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...**** you

C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
C'mon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

I can answer this thread using only songs by The Beatles:

"HELP!"
"The long and winding road"
"Don't let me down"
"It won't be long"
"Tell me why"
"Think for yourself"
"Don't pass me by"
"With a little help from my friends"

And my favorite two for this cycle:
"Here comes the sun" and
"Not a second time" 😀

Just curious, does anyone actually use iTunes to download music??

Itunes is $0.99 per song and you can buy them from the music store, by click on the tab on the left that says "music store."

I love the All-Star song. Never fails to get me through
Er, we ARE talking about songs that HELP you through the app cycle right? Some of the songs in this thread are downright miserable.
...

Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn't make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do so much to see
So what's wrong with taking the back streets
You'll never know if you don't go
You'll never shine if you don't glow

Hey now you're an All Star get your game on, go play
Hey now you're a Rock Star get the show on get paid
(And all that glitters is gold)
Only shooting stars break the mold

Yup. I use Itunes.

I am not applying yet, but some songs I use to motivate myself when studying are

Big Pimpin' by Jay-Z, as helps me visualize my lifestyle when I am an MD:

"It's big pimpin, spendin G's...We be.. big pimpin, spendin cheese"

Fiesta by R Kelly, for the same reason, of course:

"We be off in the club sippin lot
Red eye deep in the club puffin' Lye
Strippers in the back of the club showing live
Soon as I get a buzz I'm showing out
House on top of the hill
Counting what?
Whose gonna buy the bar?
Got enough"

"We pop Cris on a daily base
Plus we got honeys all up in the place
Bout to wild out in a major way
So put your hands up if you made your pay
Add a little juice to the Tangaray
But let the ice show till the diamond fades"

And the all time motivational song by Lil' Kim and company:

"It's the key to life
Money power respect
That you need in life
Money power respect
You'll be eatin' right
Money power respect
You can sleep at night
You'll see the light
It's the key to life
Money power respect
That you need in life
Money power respect
You'll be eatin' right
Money power respect
Money power respect
Money power respect"

😀

Just curious, to those that use iTunes, I'm sure you are aware that there are freeware programs that allow you to dl songs for free and have a much broader selection that iTunes? Or is this a matter of morality?

Again, I am just wondering, no need to flame or bring up the music downloading debate.

Definitely been listening to Songs for Silverman by Ben Folds a lot lately, and cranked it on the way to my first interview yesterday...especially "Bastard" for some reason puts me in the right frame of mind for this whole process.

"The more you know you know you don't know ****,
The Whiz Man will never fit you like the Whiz Kid did

So why you gotta act like you know when you don't know?
It's okay if you don't know everything..."

There's something very pleasant and relaxing about that 😎

Itunes is so fast and convenient. Moreover, it's legal. Also, all the songs are of a standard format and made digital directly from the record companies. File sharing programs often contain spyware, which I try to avoid. Moreover, you can search and find fifty versions of the same song. I want good quality and an industry standard. That's why I buy off itunes, although I'm looking into alternatives, such as MSN music. I think right now it's kind of a lose-lose situation. You pay for quality and yet there are protection mechanisms, or you get it for free and worry about legal issues and/or the integrity of the file.

Yeah, I use Itunes on my work computer and don't want to deal with the spy ware and file integrity issues. It's bad enough I am downloading music on the work computers!!

and so on. Singing along is highly encouraged 🙂

Excellent choices. I'm definitely going to need to look into buying "Walk Like an Egyptian". 🙂

I would also suggest:

Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
Chariots of Fire - Vangelis
Jump (For My Love) - The Pointer Sisters

and, of course, I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

scars

"my weakness is that i care too much"

great interview line!

"Listen To Your Heart" by DHT

Unfortunately there are no good mixes of this song!!! It should be awesome, but every edit seems to screw some part of it up!

i found a great song to get me pumped up for midterms was always that "let's get down to business" song by eminem
