Well first.
no - seriously

Why is it that the only thing people talk about on this pre-dent forum is money and debt (how much will I make? What is my starting salary? I don't want to own a practice or deal with people - how much $$$ will I get)

Seriously? You go over to the premed forum, and the people are talking about research NIH funding, clerkships and interesting information, etc

Really makes me wonder about the caliber of students going into the dental field (med school rejects), and their motivations

If my above statement pisses you off - well then, you're part of the problem, or you're looking at his with rose-colored-glasses

Secondly, it's still not too late to pursue medicine if the shiny 240k+ salary is something you want. I say go for it.:woot:

Medicine has so many negatives to it.. Theres a reason that Family Practice doctors are making 240k with signing bonuses, NO ONE wants to do it... You have to go through 3 years of grueling residency, be among med students for 4 years who, in my opinion, aren't a clique I mesh with. Then you spend your life among these same doctors and constantly worried that a cheaper PA or NP is gonna take your patients/job. You are always on call basically. You wouldn't believe how many patients call the doctor for random/dumb questions about prescriptions or whatever. You have NO patient interaction time. Seriously, when I was a medical assistant the doctors tried to be in and out of the room in like 5 minutes and onto the next patient. They had NO relationship with patients at all. I was the one that did. There is a TON of paperwork and documenting that goes on. So you're putting in 40 hours and then another 10 or so per week on just paperwork and updating charts. Plus there are political groups trying to eliminate family practice as a specialty all together and just have there exist specialist doctors.

So the grass will always be greener.

@CCCN2 Please keep your negative thoughts to yourself. Most of us are very excited to be a part of this profession.

Grass is greener. Ask on the premed forums and some of them will say to go to dentistry.

Although, I think we all can agree, do not go into pharmacy.

Can we ban this guy? He starts equally insulting threads in the pre-med forums.
