Hi,

I am trying to write down my personal statement for boston and NYU. can someone help me out as what should be written in that. Should I mention one of the most fulfilling experiences related to the field of dentistry ? like how have u guys gone with it ?
and can I mention a little bit about volunteer work, a few of my personality traits, extra curricular activites related to dentistry ? thats how I have written it so far. But very confused as what excatly do they look for and In boston application it also says "statement of qualifications and objectives" but qualifications are mentioned in another part of the application so whats the use of mentioning it in the personal statement.
please do post what u guys have mentioned in your statement of purpose?
I will highly appreciated that.
thanks!

Hi Yash,

Thanks for ur reply. So I am not alone 🙂 well I have tried to search on the net but most of the writings seemed very dramatic to me. Maybe I havent searched properly. Do u know how many words it should have in case of BU ? They havent mentioned anything on the online application.

Good Luck! 👍

hi Saira
Yes you are right.People write their statement in so many different styles. It is kind of confusing.Regarding the no. of words i do not know. But whatever little i have gathered from net, it seems that 1000 words is a decent number. But does NYU application says how many word to be used.As far as i remember i did not see such a thing in that too.Correct me if i am wrong. How many words , are you thinking to write?

Hi Yash,

well I am trying to write about 500 words. No of words arent mentioned though in NYU but someone has mentioned on SDN that somewhere b/w 600 is fine. People who have already been thru this process can help us out here.

Take care

hi saira
well as far as NYU is concerned u shd write 1 full page..the space that is given for the personal statement ..there is no need to attach extra pages..1 page is enough..and that shd include how u develop interest in dentistry, ur extracurricular activities, dental experience, volunteer work and a little about the particular school in which u r applying..like why do u want to attend this school and the future goals..hope it helps
good luck

thanks healthy teeth, that sure helps.
hi saira and yash,
i m also in the same boat as yours...i was going thru u penn application...thy dont ask for a sop...but thy have 2 ques ...
1.summarize ur professional dental experience in ur home country
2.briefly discuss ur carrer goals..
so shd i just fill in answers to these and no need of a sop?? or wt??
someone whos been thru all this ,,pls guide. thanks. mita.

hi mita,
If u have included ur career goals in SOP u can write "refer to SOP'in the space provided and attach the SOP. U can aslo briefly describe ur goals in that space. But it is always better to send the SOP with application even though they dint ask for it. Thats what i did. Gl

hi mita & sreshta
Till now i was not thinking of writing a seprate SOP for U Penn. But Sreshta has made me think again.I have one more doubt about the .....professional dental experiance question......does this mean experiance after internship or .......experiance of dental school & internship can also be mentioned. Please let me know what you guys think.
thanks
yash

hi yash,
i think professional dental experience is all that u gain with association to dentistry u can include ur college and internship expeiences but if u have any exp after college highlight on that.GL

well I think they have very little space to fit everything! dont u think so ?
well only 5 lines to write about ur professional dental experience. well since i only have clinical experience during the 3rd and final year so I have mentioned that and now I think that 5 lines were sufficient 🙂

No experience in US so left that part blank.
