Hey guys,
First, sorry for writing an essay below...
So I asked before, but just need a little more advice if possible.
I got my grades back after finishing my first year of university. Needless to say, they are less than stellar. (oGPA = 2.7, you get the idea) Anyway, I did really poorly in Gen chem 1 (C-) and statistics (C), and I don't have the option to retake the courses unless I got an F or W. Basically, my only option is to take an upper level equivalent. Basically what I'm asking is when should I take the upper levels if necessary? (I still have gen chem 2 in the coming fall term) I have my second year completely scheduled, but can take spring/summer courses and haven't scheduled any classes for 3rd or 4th year. Any advice helps. Thanks!

Well, if you did not do so well your freshman year, that is okay, just try to find ways to do better and learn from what you did wrong in your first year. An upward trend in your gpa is looked highly upon. That being said though, I've head from many people that any important class below a C (C-'s and lower), dental schools may not accept. So you may have to take that upper level equivalent though I've never heard of an upper level equivalent for a lower level class before.

When you take your classes doesn't really matter I think as long as you complete them with good grades. Though it is suggested that you take recommended classes such as anatomy and physiology, immunology, microbiology, mostly microorganism related classes.

As for taking classes in the summer, don't take any important classes at a community college (important classes like biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biochemistry). Even if the dental schools aren't sure if the community college curriculum is easier than 4 year schools, they know that's the reason why you want to take those classes at a community college, so don't do that. I'm not sure regarding taking courses during the summer at your university, so hopefully someone else can comment on that. By the way, are you able to change your schedule at your school? You make it sound as if you can't.

Thanks alexamasan!

It's not really an upper level equivalent, but I saw an academic advisor and he told me to that if I did poorly in the 2 intro/gen chems that there were two upper level chems I could take to sort of replace them.

I would be taking summer/spring term classes at my University. Don't know if that's relevant or not...
