Hello All,
I am applying to PCCM this year and am particularly interested in the southeast, from about Maryland down south. I am looking for some information on programs there. I am curious about call (in-house vs. at home), research opportunities, options for master's level training, and overall environment (ie intangibles). Specifically, I am wondering about Duke, Hopkins, Vanderbilt, UAB, and Emory. If you don't feel comfortable posting in public, feel free to PM me.

Yea, I am. I am interested in clinical research, perhaps in lung cancer. I also would like great clinical training, but who doesn't? Would be nice if they paid for a fourth year and even a master's level degree.

Well at Hopkins and Vandy you can do both, in fact, I'm not sure they'll take anyone not interested in a a fourth research year. Vandy really impresses me the most. Emory should be that way, but I didn't interview there so I don't know. UAB is in flux, moving towards more research (new division chief brought in from Michigan wants to move the program into top 5 contention - and the Medicine Chair is a Pulm/CC guy, so lots of potential, though not established yet). They were in the process of securing their training grant(s) when I was interviewing last year. Duke is Duke - solid. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Florida - Gainesville
Wake Forest

MUSC definitely has a research track, training grant, etc. Florida is an "up and comer" - doing some WILD stuff in the pleural space (could be interesting for a lung cancer guy). Wake, while probably more of a clinical training spot, can accommodate those more interested in research with an institution training grant (I was really impressed with Wake - they were my number 2)

Wake looks interesting. Did they mention anything more about the Interventional research program on the interview day... this is exactly what I am interested in.
MUSC was on my radar, mainly b/c of charleston. Unfortunately, my wife would never live in Gainesville for college football reasons.
