that the students there are cutthroat and unfriendly???? I loved my visit to UTSW and felt that all the students were happy and worked well together. The curriculum is difficult but that's to be expected. I heard so many horrible things that no one shares notes and people will even steal your books so that you can't study. My impression was so completely changed!.

Anyone else feel this way?

I felt the same way went I interviewed there. It's definately high on my list.

I never heard that about UTSW. Its really nice and one of my top choices.

The cutthroat rumor might be due to their ABCDF grading system with GPA, but I think the student body is pretty chill and happy.

Yeah, my cousin graduated from there a couple of years ago and she said it was a great school with a nice atmosphere and friendly students. I went to her grad ceremony and everybody seemed nice.

ITA -- I loved Southwestern. Maybe the rumors are just because it is the top of the UTs?

Okay,

I took a tour of Southwestern with my school about two years ago. My tour guide was excellent and she says that the sterotype came from a class either right about her, or two years above her. There was some legal case in court concerning a male with great numbers not getting in (I think it was about Law School though), so she said that during that year Southwestern played it safe and accepted people based more on numbers. She said like 70% of the class were males, and all alike so there class was always competitive and at each other's throats. That is how they got the reputation by that one class. However, after seeing how bad it got, they went back and looked at the applicants whole application instead of mainly numbers. So that had to be a class about eight years ago. I might be totally wrong because this is what a student told me, but this is why I believe UTSW has that cut-throat reputation, or at least that was how it was explained to me by someone who had seen that intensity. She said her class was nothing like that, and got along great!

there are cutthroats everywhere. When u start med school u will meet some wack people, but that;s to be expected.

I think there are as many cool people there as gunners. I have alot of friends at UTSW and they are definetely really cool so u have nothing to worry about.

I bet u the people starting the rumors of UTSW and baylor being cut throat are the people who didnt get in

LOL

I am a Texas resident (only a sophomore) but I have been to UTSW and Baylor on many occasions. Baylor definitely has a friendly atmosphere. I did my internship there and everyone is always helping each other learn. Most of the students are very conservative and generally care about the well-being of the class. UTSW is a little different. I would not say they are all die-hard gunners, but they are more competitive. They push themselves harder and seem to be more stressed because of it. I could not guarantee that they share notes or not, but from my experience, I can not see them refusing to aid fellow students.

I think those are mutually exclusive clauses in that sentence.
