Does anyone know the statistics of how many students specialize out of certain D.O schools instead of doing primary care. Is there a website or do any of you happen to know? Thanks.

hmm it did not include alot of the D.O schools such as NECOM, CCOM, PCOM, and COMP. anyone know the stats on these? thanks

what about CCOM and COmp, anybody know? anyone know in general which D.O school has the most students come out and specialize

it varies by school....here ya go:
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/webextras/brief/sb_med_primarycare_brief.php
look at the bottom half of the list for the DO schools who send the most grads into non-primary care specialties. Some DO schools have among the highest rates of specialization in the country (MD or DO)

Taus you truely are an unbiased opinion. No mention of the fact that our school sends more people to specialties then almost all the allopathic and All the osteopathic schools. Thats modesty........................of course I dont have a problem with it😀

I don't really see sending students into specialties as anything to brag about or be ashamed of. They're just numbers. It might matter if you were someone trying to be a brain surgeon and planning on going to WVSOM

From the above link, just for convenience sake

USNews
School - Average % of 2002-2004 graduates entering primary care residencies (however USNews define it, argue with them, not me)

WVSOM - 87.3%
MSUCOM - 85.8%
PCSOM - 78.0%
TCOM - 77.7%
NSUCOM - 77.0%
UNECOM - 67.2%
OSUCOM - 67.0%
LECOM - 61.0%
OUCOM - 58.0%
TUCOM - 52.0%
DMUCOM - 46.5%
KCOM - 45.7%
NYCOM - 45.0%
PCOM - 37.0%

If your school is not listed, blame the school for not providing USNews with the information

For perspective, some MD schools

East Carolina University - 62.0% (highest percentage among the MD schools listed)
University of Nebraska - 61.0%
Drexel University - 52.0%
Michigan State University CHM - 50.1%
University of North Carolina Chapel Hill - 48.0%
University of Washington - 46.0%
Baylor College of Medicine - 45.6%
Duke University - 43.1%
Emory University - 42.0%
Harvard University - 41.0%
New York University - 38.8%
Johns Hopkins University - 37.0%
University of Pennsylvania - 37.0%
University of Virginia - 37.0%
Stanford University - 32.1%
Mayo Medical School - 32.0%
University of North Dakota - 28.0% (lowest percentage among MD schools listed)

I know there are no rankings for D.O. schools, but does anyone have a general idea of what are the best osteopatchic schools? Thanks

The best osteopathic school by far is OU-COM in Athens, OH.
