I have a speeding ticket which I was guilty of and paid for which I am guessing is a conviction (please correct me if I am wrong)

Is that something I should've have marked "yes" on my misdemeanor part on my primary?

If so, should I contact every schools I applied for to let them know about my mistake?

Thanks 🙂

Idk bout your state, but in mine traffic violations are almost always infarctions but not misdemeanors. Maybe if you were like going 90 in a school zone

Speeding tickets are usually traffic violations / infractions as stated above. It should say it on your ticket or possibly DMV website. If it was over 3 years ago it won't be on your record.

I had a misdemeanor (reckless driving) from Virginia which I completely forgot to state in my MD primary. Just figure out which secondaries ask for it and update it in their applications, or if there's no space to, shoot them an email or give them a call to update them.

I got a ticket for driving 70 mph on a 60 mph.
I believe in my state speeding tickets are infractions, but I emailed couple schools to let them know i forgot to add that.
Should i continue it with my other schools? or only to schools that asked for it?

What kind of I'm-not-busy-enough-fighting-real-crime asshat of a cop ticketed you for that?!

I think you ought to let sleeping dogs lie unless the schools specifically said they wanted to know about minor traffic infractions. This is not the kind of criminal record that worries us.

90 mph in a school zone would give me an infarction, too! 😉

Thank you for the response.
Yes, I was upset when I got the ticket, but it is what is is haha
I have already sent a letter to update some schools, so hopefully the update won't bother them too much.
If the schools are asking for convictions and minor traffic violation is an infraction in my state, should I still report it or no?

If there's a place for you to report it on a secondary that you haven't yet submitted, go ahead and list it. If you've already submitted a secondary, leave it alone.

No admissions committee in America is going to care about this at all.

Side story, had an AA friend from HS who was driving his NY tagged car thru a small town in Georgia. He got pulled over going 32 in a 25 mph zone by a out-of-central-casting deputy in mirrored glasses and chewing tobbaco saying “nobody goes thru my town that fast boy”
My friend replied “Sherman did”
He spent 12 hours in jail
I want to meet your friend and shake his hand.

I once got pulled over in western New Mexico for driving 70 in a 65. The cop who pulled me over told me he'd have ignored it if I was 6-10 mph over the limit, but in his experience people going only 1-5 mph over usually had something to hide. And then he asked why I seemed upset. No kidding.

Actually I would go further and say dont mention it at all in secondaries. If it comes up prematriculation all that will be needed is very short letter to dean if requested

This is a non issue

HAHAHA good thing I ended with a "sorry officer" and rolled my eyes after he let me go for giving me the ticket.

I have already sent emails to couple schools because I was freaking out lol
But I won't send it to anymore schools unless they ask me.

Thanks for the help! 🙂

To piggyback off of this, I have a speeding ticket that was revised to a non-moving violation after some attorney stuff. I hadn't reported it anywhere since its not a misdemeanor and most places specifically say they don't care about traffic violations.

That being said, a school I received an interview invite for apparently has on their FAQs (which I just saw now) that they'd like us to mention any traffic infraction more serious than a parking fine. Had I seen this before I submitted their secondary, I would have mentioned it. My question is, should I email them now and just mention the speeding/non-moving violation? I figure it won't hurt...

Check your state laws. Google it. If it is misdemeanor, you have to mark yes. It wont be a problem and most likely will not show up on background check, but you want to be open about it. In both of states I have lived, traffic violations are misdemeanors. Schools told me to write them down. They didnt show up on the background check though.
