Hello everyone,
I don't know if this is the right forum to post this but, what are the consequences of a traffic ticket for speeding?
I just got pulled over for speeding and have to pay a 280$ fine. I was going at 94 in a 70 mph limit highway. I've never been issued a ticket or antyhing in this country, so I have no idea how te process works. On the paper the officer gave me says that I don't have to go to court (a little box saying "infraction which does not require appearance in court" is checked) but I have to pay 280$. If I pay, will the ticket be shown on my record? What consequences could that bring, not only with applying to med school but in general?. I'm kinda nervous because as I said i've never gotten a ticket or anything before, so I have no clue how everything works.
Thanks for the advice!
Oh I also have a parking ticket. I got it about a year ago.

if its a moving violation, you probably will get something on your driving history, get points on your license, and your premium should rise

No one cares... The only purpose speeding tickets serve is to produce revenue for local governments

No worries. And the cop probably cut you a break by making it a 94 in a 70 because a 95 (25 over) could most likely result in a misdemeanor (depending on the state) and then would be on your record.

Because it sounds like he cited you for the full 24 over, you will probably get a 2 or 3 point moving violation. This sort of violation will appear on your driving record and also to your insurance company. In some states, driving records are expunged every 3(?) years. It shouldn't affect your medical school application. Almost everyone in this country has had a speeding ticket. The little box that says you don't have to go to court is because you can waive your right to a trial and just pay the fine.

Ok so since it is not a misdemeanor, it would not apper on my record?. Also, I'm looking at the possibility of driving school so I don't get points in my license. If it was a misdemanor I would have to attend court right?
Wow isn't getting a speeding ticket a pain it the butt?! We have such perfect highways, and there are so many awesome cars made for..well speeding..and you can't use them..haha that sucks.

You're fine. No misdemeanor. But yes, speeding tickets are a pain. Be grateful you live in an area where the highway speed limit is 70 and not 55 like in the metropolitan area of Chicago... 😡

The points on your driving record = expensive premiums (especially being young).

I had to learn the hard way 👎

You should see if you can get some contacts (maybe with the DA) or the police office that cited you. You should ask them what it would take to get the speeding ticket moved a non-moving violation. With the couple of speeding tickets that I've gotten, it either took a call or just paying the fine by a certain time and they would move it to a non-moving violation.

As far as medical school, it's no biggie at all, I would think.

speeding tickets don't matter unless you get a misdemeanor (reckless driving) or worse (DUI)

94 in a 70 is pretty close to reckless driving though...so i wouldn't do it again.

I-88 east of Farnsworth is a trap so is I-355 (I got pulled over twice in one year)

ooooh. Just got one of these on my way home from work. 44 in a 20 (school zone). yeah. the only one that cares is my wallet 🙂mad🙂. Crap part was that I shouldn't even have been driving! I covered a shift for a sick coworker, worked 12hrs overnight in the CCU. A cute nurse saving lives of forgotten Vetrans? haha. tCop did not care. 🙁

Almost every place you'd have to report a crime would tell you not to report minor traffic violations. If you just had to pay a fine, that qualifies as a minor traffic violation. It's not even a misdemeanor unless you get taken in.

But going 24 mph above the speed limit is getting very close to reckless driving, as one poster mentioned. Also, if you get into an accident going that fast and hurt someone, you could be charged with a misdemeanor or felony. So while speeding tickets and parking tickets won't hurt you, you'll want to make sure it doesn't accidentally turn into anything worse!

The united states is so con-freaking-servative. In other countries with modernized transportation systems, they drive faster, on average, than we do. Their drivers are simply held to a higher standard (for the driver's test).

In fact, some automotive companies detune handling so that cars "feel faster" to Americans on our "slow roads." (Infiniti comes to mind)

This is ridiculous, you're worried about a speeding violation and parking tickets and how it will affect med school?

Come back when you've got two misdemeanors.

...yet another reason I'm considering deleting my account here.

Wow, you're lucky you got away with just a fine! That sucks that you got caught though 🙁

What state do you live in? That's a pretty big ticket. You still on your probationary license? Not that it matters Med school wise, but if you are you could go to court and probably have it reduced to a PBJ (Probation Before Judgement) to avoid the fine.
