This is starting to get a bit ridiculous (re: quote below). I hope folks out there aren't getting coerced into signing this petition, unless of course they truly agree with the petition's intentions. Don't let fear persuade you!

Osteopathic Medicine is under attack!

As you may know, in February of this year, representatives of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) met in Puerto Rico, out of the public eye and with little input or analysis, agreed to a single accreditation system for graduate medical education (GME) programs in the U.S.

Many fear this merger will cause irreparable harm and will ultimately destroy the osteopathic medical profession. This past July, the AOA voted down the merger but the issue gained support again for some reason. Now we must unify as one in opposing unification of our accreditation process to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Sign the Petition and join our effort to oppose the single accreditation system for GME.

In all things there will be representation and beliefs of both sides of the situation. But within discussions with various docs, I would say the majority tend to be on the side of the merger being positive. Naturally there is going to be rebuttal from the other side, but at least at this time, I just have not seen the numbers to make any serious change in the form of actually causing the merger to not happen.

How many threads about the same thing are going on now? 4?

thank you for your contribution. where is there another thread about the posted quote in particular? i just saw it today.

p.s. you should apply for a moderator position.
I didn't know every comment deserved its own thread.

I've received 2 from my school this week alone (plus 2 from ACOFP) along with one that asks us to notify the school after we sign the petition. Riiiiiiight....

Don't sign it. They can't force you, directly or indirectly, to sign a petition. That's unacceptable.

My school hasn't sent out anything and I don't expect them to, either.

Your school should have to answer for that. Have you thought about reporting them?

FWIW, when the merger was announced, my school sent out an email outlining the reasons for it and emphasizing its advantages.

Edited to add: I don't know how Osteo1st expects anyone to take them seriously with things like, "List of Horribles if Single Accreditation System Becomes Reality" on their website.

Nothing coming from my school. If anything, I would say my school has been supportive of the merger. Even heard that our dean has been pulling a lot of the strings for the merger.

Nice. Sounds like most schools are backing it.

I'm sure the unnamed school has done much worse if it's the unnamed school we're all assuming it to be. Report them and you'll suffer the wrath.

I would bet money it's from the Galactic LECOM Empire
Actually it's not. We've been inundated with emails but never told to sign it let alone notify them when we have. If I remember correctly Dharma goes to one of them their NY schools, but I may be mixing them up with someone else.

I find it fascinating that schools are even attempting to affect the progress of (in either direction) the merger by influencing their students.
It's like a big ol' osteopathic civil war.

You are incorrect with every above statement.
