I have already been accepted to medical school to one of my top 2 schools. I was wanting to take some classes next semester in order to help prepare me a little bit for medical school. I have taken all of my pre-reqs as well as several upper level biology courses.

The courses I have in mind are: Histology, Cell Biology (2nd semester), and maybe an elementary spanish course. Anyone else have any thoughts or suggestions???

Plan on relaxing next summer before matriculation, but want to try to get some good courses in next semester.

I am in the same situation, and had similar plans. I have decided I will not undertake any academic pursuits until med school starts. I have been relaxing, enjoying things that i really like to do, and I am fixing to start working pretty soon (nothing science related).

Students go into med school and they seem to be able to handle the course work without having pre taken related courses. Additionally, any advantage you gain by taking these courses will probably run out by the end of your first semester.... In short, why waste time taking classes you will eventually take.

Just think of all the things you like to do, but will probably be too busy to do once you start med school....and do those things

yeah, don't. suggestions for instead: exercise, run around in the sun, spend time with a woman, drink beer. get a job to keep yourself occupied (doesn't have to be anything spectacular, just for play money and certainly low stress).

the spanish idea is not a bad one, but you could probably buy Rosetta Stone and be more proficient conversationally for less $$$.

I agree with above posters, but if you feel very strongly that you want to take a class or two...

- Spanish- yes, use Rosetta Stone.
- Histology- really really depends on your med school whether it will help or not. For me, it was awesome.
- Embryology- this may also be useful, but only depending on your med school once again. I WISH I took embryology in college. I'm struggling in ours right about now... as in, it consistently has class averages on exams that are below the anatomy average.

With those suggestions based purely on my own experience, I think you should relax and do NOTHING. Gravitywave gave some awesome advice.
