I have two questions in regards to spring quarter classes:

1) In the quest to press submit on opening day, I would like to use my transcripts from the end of Winter quarter as Spring quarter transcripts are not available until the end of June (Which leads to mid August verification....) The difference in GPA will be what I think is marginal (3.65cgpa/3.97sgpa vs 3.68cgpa/3.98sgpa). So is it a good idea to just to the Winter quarter transcripts to avoid late submission?

2) I noticed a lot of schools require pre-reqs to be completed before April/May of the year of matriculation - for a quarter based school, does this mean completing the classes by that winter quarter or will the school allow completion as long as it is befor ematriculation?

One of my pre-health adviser strongly recommended to include spring quarter grades, especially if you're in a GPA repair post-bac or have a quarter of all rigorous science classes. Even though you have the chance to update schools about your spring quarter grades on secondary app, the spring quarter grades will never be calculated in your AMCAS GPA if you submit before the quarter ends. The adviser said this is worth the trade off of submitting the primary later (late June/early July) and be complete a bit later, and schools understand that you come from a quarter-based school so grades may be a factor of why you aren't submitting your primary since day 1.

The choice is obviously up to you, but just FYI if you choose to submit spring quarter grades you most likely won't be verified until late July/early August, assuming that spring quarter grades are released at late June.

1. It is definitely better to apply earlier than to get that 0.03 GPA bump and if that means forfeiting spring quarter grades, so be it. You can always send them in an update. You would have to check with your pre-med office though because it's possible that for the committee letter or equivalent to be processed, that they require spring term grades for that year, in which case your hand would be forced to be a little late (not the end of the world, but definitely not ideal).

2. Yes, just before matriculation. Finishing up a pre-req spring term your senior year is totally fine.

Righteous, thanks! Thankfully, I guess, my university has absolutely no pre-MED infrastructure so all of my LOR stuff is all on my own timeline! (I actually already have them all in interfolio ready to send).

Only wait for Spring quarter grades if you are doing GPA repair and need the quarter's strong grades. Where you are at GPA-wise, you will be better served applying earlier.
