did anyone get the call last night?

I'm going there next Wednesday. Hopefully I'll hear back a decision before end of February. It seems like that's the time when quite a few schools send out decisions (Columbia, Northwestern)

I interviewed there yesterday and at the exit meeting he told me it would be minumum 4 weeks and up to 6 weeks before the call could potentially come. He said VERY rarely, it can be 3 weeks but that doesn't usually happen. So it seems like the end of Feb. is realistic. That's what I am hoping for at this point. Good luck with your interview CAlBeE 🙂

I don't know if that's accurate. My friend interviewed there around Jan 5th and got a call a *week* later. She is very exceptional though.

Oh and btw, I noticed that Stanford has close to 50% of minority population. Since about 25% of the students are URM, I guess that other 25% are Asians and Middle-Easterns. That's like the largest % of minority I have seen!

Are Asians considered minority in California?

Stanford's URM population is about 18%...

from med.stanford.edu:
Entering Class of 2003
Total = 87
Age = 23 (range 20-35)
Women = 46 (53%)
New Americans (born outside the U.S.)= 21
Underrepresented Minority students = 16 (18%)
Advanced degrees = 11 (13%)

The % of URM of course varies from year to year, but I think in 2002 or 2001, it was up to 22% URM.
And Asians are considered as minority in the U.S. Population (Ever heard of the term ORM: Over-represented Minority??)

aparently some are. I only say this because my asian interviewer at Stanford was talking about his experience as a "minority..." 😕
I wanted to ask him what kind of minority he was, but i didn't have the courage....

Asians are a minority. They just aren't underrepresented in medicine.
Look at the U.S. population and then amount of asians (asian indians included). You'll see that asians clearly are not the majority of the population, nor even close.
As of now, I believe the biggest minority in the U.S. are African Americans, although hispanics are a close second.

Thanks for the tip DK. 🙂
I know I am acting super neurotic cuz if this place lives up to my expectations, which I think it will, then it's gonna be my absolute #1. I feel like a damn after-school special, like... do I dare to dream about the possibility of an acceptance? that would be too much to handle, yet, as my interview approaches... i REALLY want to go to this school!
😳

Still no word and it's been 2 months. I can not believe how long it is taking. I figured I would get a letter this week and not even a letter.

hey maoeris,
didn't juhn (sp?) say to call the office if you haven't heard within the 4-6 week period?
good luck!
(i'm waiting to hear back myself)

yeah, he said that to me too, so maybe if you don't hear very soon you should call or email and see what is happening. he seemed very encouraging about doing this, that he could at least find out what was happening with your application. good luck 🙂

Just so you guys know, I never received a phone call but did receive an acceptance letter. This is back in December, but I guess since I was in the east they thought it would be too late to call. I would have been happy to wake up to that phone call!

Thanks for that info josie. I'm flying out from Vermont to interview at Stanford on Monday. It's nice to know that a silent phone and a letter in the mail won't necessarily signal defeat 😉 (Nothing as embarrassing as throwing out an acceptance letter unopened, I should think!)
