any news tonight? please let the rest of us know!

I called Stanford today. Believe it or not, they're still sending out invitations and plan to do so for several more weeks. They're waaay behind on the paperwork. There's still hope for those us who haven't received anything word yet! No news = good news.

Doctor Kevin apparently heard back in less than 2 weeks and it was a waitlist. I wonder why they can make such decision so quickly and others took >6 weeks?

yeah, on well...no word yesterday.

more waiting.😳

I interviewed in january (1/8) and got a call the following thursday- the turnaround can be as quick as 1 week...
hope this helps

I was probably a unanimous vote...for you guys no news is good news. They are still fighting over you 🙂

Waitlisted! Well at least I was not rejected. 🙄

REJECTED!
=( damn them. I wanted to get away from the East Coast a bit, despite my love for NYC.

Maoeris and Rendar, did both of you hear back via snail mail?

I received my rejection letter today. I think post-interview rejection is the hardest to take...it almost made you feel like you did something horribly wrong during interview (When that may not be the case).

I got the letter right before I was supposed to do a presentation, and I managed to keep talking and smiling during the presentation and stayed calmed. When I got back home, I realize I forgot my keys and got locked out of my apt until my roommate came back. I totally cried, it was one of the crappiest days I had this year so far 🙁

Good luck everyone else. Stanford's a great school and I think you guys should definitely put it on top of your list of schools to consider! 😉

i got a rejection letter in the mail too. great for tp

Has anyone gotten any good news?

I think it probably boils down to one thing: They didn't feel that I fit the mission of the school. I sorta got the hint from my faculty interviewer, who didn't seem too impressed with what I had to say, and went on saying that Stanford likes training Academic Physicians. I, however, told her I would wanna start out with a clinical practice, then move on to work on Health policy or health education for organizations like CDC or WHO. Probably that's not the type of people Stanford's looking for.

I really can't think of any other reason. My student interviewer told me that "everything looks good" and I clicked with him I think.

sigh thats too bad cause I am in the same boat as you, I would LOVE to do some work with WHO....also I would like to work in under served areas.....at the same time I love how the school handles families....did you apply for davis Calbe?

In California, I only applied to UCLA, Stanford and USC (But withdrew from USC recently). I'm not a Cali resident so most of the schools I applied to are not in Cali.

Sorry Cal. Rejections hurt no matter how and where they come from. Anyway, you're meant for Columbia!

Not so sure anymore...After rejection from Stanford and waitlist from Pritzker, AND an apparent hold on decision at Emory...I don't know 🙁

CalbeE, sorry to hear about the rejection. That sux 🙁

It's interesting because my interests really overlap yours. I have pretty much the same career plans and am working in gov't right now. My interviewers both seemed to be really excited to hear about it and seemed to imply it would be a good fit. I also did talk about doing public health research though so maybe that helped. Anyway, I guess I'll wait and see what happens.... no letters have arrived yet. Good luck everyone still waiting....

yeah, I think that's what did me in, my explanation on my personal statement of why I don't want to do bench research anymore. I figured it wouldn't hurt me too much since I got to the interview stage and explained that I enjoy clinical research still and would like to do some. Maybe I should call them up and see why they rejected me? I really fell for the school during my visit there, though it's no like calling up's going to change anything.

Obviously I'm just making a guess, but my student interviewer did say, "Everything looks good", and when I asked my faculty interviewer if she had any concern, she didn't mention anything specifically, but sorta ran into the whole, "Stanford tried to train academic physicians"...that's why I drew that conclusion.

I really liked the school too, and I did email Juhn Verano, but he said he wasn't at the liberty to discuss the decision, so I don't they'll be willing to tell you the reason.

Sorry to heard that, well it is their lost you seem to be a great person (in my case this is where the super ego would come in.😉

Your rejection might be as a result of your international student status-regardless of how welcoming they claim to be to international students

Hopefully, Columbia gives you you a positive response-you will certainly be a great person to have in my class (that is assuming i am accepted of course.

So KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!!!!👍

Stanford reject here also! 🙁 plus essentially a rejection from Hopkins, got placed on the lower tier alternate list. 2 in one day!

I got the boot too. And it was my first rejection (Harvard didn't invite me to interview, so officially second rejection)! But as CalBe said, rejection after the interview is harder to accept.

I didn't even have to open that stupid envelope, I knew (but confirmed later on that it was indeed a rejection). I cried for about 5 minutes until my roomate started thrashing the school and city to make me cheer up a bit.

It's an excellent school though!

Jesus, who are they taking? Everyone seems to be getting rejects or holds...

I met a girl who got accepted early on to Stanford. She was applying MD/PHD everywhere but Stanford offered her MD only interview. She was obviously a top-notch applicant - interviewed everywhere - Harvard, Baylor, etc.

*sigh* I'm sorry to hear about all the recent bad news from Stanford recently. 🙁 Makes me reaffirm my decision not to apply there. But crying over a rejection? C'mon cheer up guys, no school is worth your tears! You were too good for them. 🙂 I think the only thing that might've made me bawl in this process is the prospect of having to do it again (i.e. not getting in anywhere and having to wait another year against my will).

Thank goodness so many people are getting rejected. This will better my chances. :hardy:

Stanford or bust.

Seriously if you got an interview at Stanford my hats off to you. At this point it is just luck and probability. I am sure that most of you who interviewed here will end up at other good schools.

I think it's just that the decision came when I wasn't in a very good mood to begin with. You know, one thing leads to another...and I'm sorta getting a deja vu feeling like college app (I got rejected at almost every single school I applied to)

My condolences CalBeE. Turkeys. 🙁

Bump.

Good luck tonight to everyone who is waiting.

🙂

Thanks for letting us east coasters know, loomis. That would be the best wakeup call ever!

Did anyone get good news last night (and if so, when did you interview)? Congrads! :hardy:

I'm still in shock. I got an email from the office asking if I had gotten a phone call, so I called them right away. They gave me my acceptance right over the phone!

I hope all the SDNers shooting for Stanford get great news, what an incredible place!

Am I correct that you just interviewed there very recently, like a week ago?

Thanks azpremed and DWND!

Yes, I interviewed on Monday and they made the decision Thursday night. Stanford's committee must be very efficient. I don't know if it's true, but I heard they switched to an internet system to speed up the process. This may mean that most folks who interview will hear quite soon after. It's so much more civilized than the 5 months some schools make people wait!

After I was accepted (in Dec.), I heard from a current student that they do indeed use an internet system now. Apparently, the committee votes on applicants via the internet before a meeting. If the internet vote is unanimous, the only action the committee takes is to automatically accept the person and notify them that same week. If there's dissent, the committee debates and a decision may take longer.

Try not to take rejections personally. Stanford is just plain bizarre. I have no other way to describe who it takes. My student interview was okay, faculty interview seemed pretty blah, and now I'm here.

Stanford definitely has students that are interested in health education and policy--like myself and many other classmates, so I don't know what the problem could've been. Good luck everyone!

You'll know better than me, but I thought that was the most likely reason for my rejection. Anyways...

Congrats viking...
From what I understand about Stanford admissions is they want to create a particular class based on interest diversity, ethnic diversity and academic diversity. I'm sure they consider many factors, look at what students they have already accepted and choose students based on all these factors. Plus the class is really small less then 100 people in the nation marticulate. That is such a small number. I realize I was lucky just to get an inteview there.

There you have it. 🙂 Just out of curiosity, Pikayou, what's your first choice (or is it Stanford)?
