I'm thinking about starting a website site where pre-meds like us can find doctors in their area to shadow. The site would also have reviews of the doctors as far as shadowing experiences and individuals could rate their experience.

It would be a lot of work and I would have to find someway to get a list of doctors available for shadowing or encourage doctors to post their availability on the website themselves.

Do you guys think this would be useful/worth starting? It would streamline the process for finding a doctor to shadow and most importantly you could see how good your shadowing experience could be based on others reviews.

Also trying to think of a good name for the website. So far, I have DocShadow or ShadowDoc, feel free to suggest names. If anyone has experience with web design/coding or would be able to help out in any way as far as publicity or adding content, feel free to contact me.

I don't know if there is such a thing already, but it needs to be implemented if it hasn't already.

This is a really good idea. Osteopathic applicants have something similar to use - the AOA's mentoring program. I think all members of the AOA are contacted and asked to participate in this program, and interested physicians can sign up and choose to become mentors if they want. Something on a national level would need to be implemented by the AMA or some other professional organization, but I agree there is a great need for it.

Yea, it's pretty neat. Here is the link: http://www.osteopathic.org/directory.cfm

I started a similar database for my graduate program. It included physicians affiliated with our department and others who work in areas related to the department's research. 100% were more than happy to allow students to follow them around. Having a database would be a great resource for pre-meds. I've seen numerous threads asking about how to find a physician to shadow.

I'm sorry, but the SDN Forums is not an appropriate place for soliciting help on building a website. This thread is being closed.
