I took most of my prereq at a CC that has become a state college. My transcript says state college not CC. Is there any difference in the eyes of adcoms between a state college and CC?

Here are my classes

Bio1...............A (CC)
Bio2...............B (CC)
Gen Chem1....A(CC)
Gen Chem2....A (CC)
Physics1........B (CC)
Physics2........A (CC)
physiology1... A (CC)
Physiology2....B (CC)
Organic 1.......A- (University)
Organic2........B (University)
Genetics....... B- (university)
Biochem....... C (University)

It was very convenient for me to take these classes at the CC because of my financial situation and schedule. I had to work 40+hrs/wk throuhout my college career. The CC has become a state college now..How adcoms will see these classes? I am really concerned about that C in biochem.....

Did it become a 4 year state college? If not, I don't think it matters that the school changed from "community" to "state" college. 2 year vs 4 year is the issue, not what the school is called.

Yes, it becomes a 4-year state college.

Fisrtly, don't fuss too much, even if your transcript says CC...the courses are OK, as long as you took them reasonably close together. We only have problems with people who take them one at a time over several years.

My own take on your question is that I do perceive a tier among colleges. At the top I'd put the state university, like, say, the U of TX. Next I'd put the ___state, like TX state college, and below that would be the CC system, like Smith County CC.

So, even if you're taking orgo 1 at a CC, but you've got a 15 hr credit load, I think you're taking a rigorous load which gives me insight that you can handle medical school.

Capeesh?

thanks for this answer

...I don't have extensive CC courses, but I did take a full semester (19 credit hours) of science courses at a CC and have always wondered how this was looked at.

This and the fact that it's a 4-year state college now might make them overlook it.

They may wonder why you took all these sciences at a CC, but if you just explain to them your situation, they'll still probably overlook it.

I doubt the ADCOMs will know that it was a CC when you took the classes. They'll see whatever you input on your AACOMAS/AMCAS, which is whatever your transcript says. Input the school's info as it is now though.

In all honesty, I think you are very lucky. Cheap CC coursework that will now appear as 4 year uni coursework!

Yeah, your medical experience will help for sure. A nice MCAT score makes ADCOMs looks over a lot of things... 😀 One C won't kill you, either.

And this. 👍 This is what I think will really happen.
