I realize this may not be the perfect forum to ask this question, but I figured that this is the closest match. I am interested in career work in international medicine/practicing abroad, but I feel that the military has too much control over you to go that route, and while Doctors Without Borders might be interesting for a brief stretch, I don't really consider it a long-term thing. Does anyone have any experience in working with the State Department (in this sort of position, for example- http://careers.state.gov/specialist/opportunities/medoff.html) or has heard anything regarding the conditions, satisfaction, pay, etc. of such positions? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
