If the average GPA and MCAT are around 3.4 and 8.5 for a state supported osteopathic med school, what does one need to have to be competative for these schools if they are not a state resident? Is it much higher?

WELCOME TO SDN!!! 😀

I would assume that you would need higher numbers just because of the in-state preferences....

I had similar scores, and I had much success in applying...I too live on Long Island, and am leaving for Western in L.A. in a few weeks.

I interviewed at ~8 schools, declined a few interviews, and had a bunch of acceptances to chose from..do your scores will be fine.

Its more a matter of how you present yourself.

If you want, e-mail me and we'll talk...

Best of luck!!!!
