Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this. My statement of understanding says "You must register to take Step 3 of the USmle/Comlex in the fall of your PG1 year, and test no later than 13 March 2009"

I know this has to be a type but it's repeated in the form to be initialed as well. Should I just cross out the date and put 2010 or just not initial that line? I realize that this is nitpicky but with the bureaucrats in the military I really would rather save the headache of signing something that isn't correct. Thanks

Don't do either yet. First, email the person who sent this, inform them of the mistake and ask that they send you an updated and corrected form. If they don't, refuse to sign the document. If they whine, say that you are not obligating yourself to fulfill an obviously mistaken requirement simply because they are too lazy to update the date on the form. But in nicer words than that of course.

Never, EVER make the mistake of just signing whatever seemingly silly piece of paper someone sticks under your nose. You'll come across this time and time again especially during your military career. If something seems wrong, it probably is and you'll avoid many a legal land mine by refusing to sign something until the flaw is corrected.

Indeed, it should be a quick fix to amend the document and fax it back to you. These events are not uncommon. When I was an MS2 I commissioned a classmate for his convenience. I made him read all his contract doucuments over closely. Had he signed them, he would have been signing up for a 4 year ADSO. Thing, was he was taking a 3yr HPSP. I don't think he regretted looking at that one closely (I vaguely remember that they amended it that day).

I got the contract on Saturday and I realized the same thing when I looked at it last night. I am going to call Matt Kush today. I really do not want to sign the form until it is corrected and I do not want to cross anything out. Let me know if you find anything out. Thanks!

Really glad you posted this OP, I didn't notice it and had to grab my letter out of the mailbox. I've emailed Mr. Kush as well, will post once I hear something.

I got an email today that they would be mailing out a new batch and to destroy the copies from jan 16th. I guess your e-mails got their attention. Now you've got me worried about the length of commitment that I signed up for 🙄 Oh well, I can only hope that I really looked over the contract 3 years ago.

I noticed the same mistake, too. I also see that the deadline to sign the statement and mail it back is one week. I say that physicians education branch can come for me in person if they want this document signed. Otherwise, I'll wait for them to correct their error.

One thing I miss about being in the military is all the urgent non-urgent document/e-mail requests - "I need ____ by close of business tomorrow"

You can call AFPC to get a copy of your contract. They'll email it to you. The second page should mention the commitment. If you signed 3 years ago, I'm guessing that you have 3 years of active duty, and 5 years on the reserves.

Haha, I get these all the time. Hilarious - sorry kids, your urgency does not equal my emergency.

I keep on demanding that they fire me for my chronic noncompliance in these matters, but they never do. :annoyed:
