Just curious if anyone knows of any states where the residency requirements for in-state tuition prices are fairly easy to meet for out-of-staters. I've heard UNLV will allow you to apply for residency for just moving to the state, which would be a $20,000/yr savings. I know most schools require an individual to live in a state for 12 months for any other purpose besides to attend school. And, once you've started school, some schools won't allow you to change your residency status. I'd rather not look through the requirements for each state; so, if any of you have some insights, please share.

It really varies. Normally, you have to do the following:

Have a spouse that works, i.e., paying state taxes.
Register a vehicle.
Make over $6000 in taxable income.
Cut all finacial ties to the state you came from: bank accounts

If you buy a home or real estate, you're normally golden.

UCONN lets you have resident status after the 1st yr.
IUSD will not change your status to resident at all, but you could be a resident if you have lived in IN for 12 months prior to the 1st day of school.

Temple will grant you residency prior to first year if you buy a house before you matriculate. If not right away, then after 1st year you can petition for residency.

isnt temple a private school?
does it matter whether we are resident or not?

Temple is a private school, and they dont care where you are from when they hand out acceptances. However, they do offer lower tuitions for PA residents.
