so i stated in my applications that i am getting a bachelor's degree in june...but i might not be able to.

i will be shy one course (i know, ******ed) because the one course i need to graduate conflicts with physiology (which i need for sure for one of the pharmacy schools i applied to)

will they like...take away my acceptance just because i dont' have a bachelors? i will have finished my prereqs already..

Couldn't you take it over the summer?

Can you take one of the classes over the summer before you matriculate to pharm school?

i could try...but chances are it won't be offered...it's an upper division core elective (cellular physiology)

also, if i don't get accepted to the other 2 schools here, i will have to settle for midwestern CPG (which begins this summer since it's an accelerated 3year program)

were u conditionally accepted? u could always try to call them and try to explain your situation.

Do you go to a UC? If you do, I was going to say that you can try to see if other UCs offer the course or not over the summer...that is, if you don't go into the accelerated program. Class planning is giving me a headache too!

i go to cal poly pomona

one of midwestern CPG's matriculation requirements states:
Furthermore the student understands that Midwestern University maintains the right to deny Matriculation or Continued Enrollment to any Student who:
Fails to successfully complete any necessary undergraduate degree requirements at an accredited college or university.

this may be a problem...but does CPG even require a bachelors to be considered?
edit: i checked CPG's admissions requirements...and it doesn't state a bachelor's is required. i guess i can give them a call and ask if it's okay if i don't get my bachelors.
i'll also have to talk to my counselor about this rediculous situation.

normally i'm down with finding your own info, but definitely ask and get confirmation about this. My guess is they'd be willing to bend a little in you not getting a Bachelor's. I'd just be annoyed at having gone through 3.99 years of school and not get a B.S.

Actually you don't. If that's the way you feel about the school I have my doubts you'll be happy going there. Take a year off, find things to do to improve your application and re-apply to the schools you want to attend. I'm confident I could have gotten into CPG this year if I wanted, but after talking to a counselor there, current students, other students applying, and pharmacists I work with I decided its not for me.

Like Confettiflyer said, definitely do ask, but it's just that you have spent and worked so hard for almost 4 years and that you would want want a bachelor's.

yeah right, barring any personal circumstances that keep you in a certain locale, most people here will "settle" at any pharmacy school that takes them.

Hell I want to go to USC but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen...and I'm not gonna bust my ass for 2 years at a CC to raise my GPA just to go there.

u can still graduate the next year and take the class in the summer or at another university in the summer of this year and have the credit transferred. plus theres usually other classes than can substitute for that one class ur missing.

Most being the key word. Some people consider their education an investment and actually want to get their money's worth.

Hey Nerv! I graduated from Cal Poly this past December and there are a few classes you can choose from for the cell phys requirement. Also, you can try to petition a class to fulfill the requirement. Go see your advisor ASAP. I know you'd probably rather take cell phys than any of the other options, cause that's what I wanted also. I figured cell phys would be more beneficial to me later in my education. Cell phys was a lot of work and in my opinion the coursework was similar to Cell and Molecular Development (BIO 310). The lab was a pain, with two formal labs due a week. If you can avoid this class, I would. Good luck to you.

I'd go that route instead of "settling" for a school.

Talk to the pharm schools right away and explain the situation, and also talk to your advisor ASAP (like everybody else has said). You should be able to get away with taking a "special studies" course where you do independent study that can fulfill that requirement so that you can take both classes. I had to do that when I was doing my double, since I was 4 units short of graduating, and the course fulfilled the requirements for my BA.

If for some reason that doesn't work, and if you just need physio for pharm, depending on where you go, you should be able to get away with just taking a physio class at a local community college, or even through an extension program (UC Berkeley offers physio through their extension--UCSF pharm accepts it, begrudgingly 🙂. If you're located in the Bay Area, you can take it at Canada College, since the classes there are never full and they offer physio in the summer (and the class there is easy!).

word.
i am adaptable to change and there's no way i'm going to waste a year + money to reapply ...besides the phoenix/glendale area isn't much different from the LA/OC area.

i am going to talk to sperry tomorrow...i've kept her up to date about my pharmacy school application process so i'm sure she'll bend some rules.
they don't offer the other classes like MIC428 this quarter--it's lame!

some schools require classes to be completed no later than spring 08 so that's not an option unfortunately

oooh i smell snoooooty, i like you already.

but what nerv said...i'm adaptable, and getting a pharm degree isn't the same as getting a bachelor's or an MD. Any accred. pharm degree + passage of the national board & state juris. exam = equal earning power as the guy who wasted 2 years to get into UCSF.

You can split hairs about residency and hospital pharmacy...or how much bigger you made a particular school's endowment via your tuition payment, but in the end it doesn't matter.

But if taking extra years to get into the school of your choice gives you a boner, then by all means, do it.

hooray i get to graduate from college! i am going to substitute that one class with another 400 level class with the same amount of units.

:zip:
