Statistic to get into a ba/md program espescially PLME

How hard is it to get into some of these ba/md program. Can anybody list their statistics and what programs they get accepted to and which they didn't thanks.

I think you can check averages on the school websites or in those books the princeton review puts out. They are VERY high though- i remember when i got shut out of the Rice/Baylor one, i was below the average and had over a 1500!! --Trek

I was accepted to USC B/MD, Northwestern HPME, and Brown PLME early action.

I was rejected without interview from Rice/Baylor and UCSD.

My GPA in HS was 4.0 unweighted 4.97 weighted and I had a 1560 on the SAT's.... SAT II Writing 800, Math IIC 790, Chem 780, Bio 770.

i have a friend in plme and he had 1590, straight A's all through high school, valedictorian, played tennis, but did have some weak EC's. his bro is also goin to plme and had 1590, and was second or third in class, and very well rounded student.

I got into USC's B/MD, Northwestern's HPME, MCV-VCU's, and MCP Hahnemann (both w/ Gannon and IUP) combined programs when I applied about 4 years ago. I had a not-so-stellar high school GPA of 3.51 unweighted/3.8 weighted. But I had a 1600 SAT, 800 Writing SAT II, etc. I also had some good extracurrics that weren't medical--stuff like winning speech contests and being an Amnesty rep.

To get into these programs these days it's almost mandatory to have over a 1500 SAT. If you interview well, you give yourself a tremendous advantage because most high schoolers aren't that polished. Basically they're looking for academically capable, mature students who know what they're getting into.

ok. my stats ain't that good. 4.0 hs gpa, and 4.7 weighted i think. 1550 sats, a few 800s SAT IIs but i don't think they count that much. i was in leadership (complete BS and only popularity contest), started a service club, volunteered at convalescent home (actually liked doing that), but most of all, i was hardcore research. i was westinghouse and also a lot of other awards.

its true that interview skills r hella important for these bac/mds programs. I applied to that northwestern program, but i forgot to schedule the phone interview! OOOOPS! i did it again i guess, but wtf i don't care. i wanted the USC one and that's the best one imo.

anyway....i'm not a super genius like these guys, but i was accepted at VCU-MCV, got an interview at Rochester. 1500 SAT, 3.7 unweighted, no rank. Was ed. in chief of school newspaper, in SGA, cum laude society, some random awards, etc. more later.

hehe man i guess i am the blacksheep of this group. I amalmost done with the NWU HPME program and had a crappy SAT score (less than 1500), had a 4.0 GPA, 4.42 unweighted (max you could get at my HS), NSF Young Scholar fellowship in research, and not much extra curricular junk... never was president of anything, never won any contests.. NWU was the only one I got an interview to and I was surprisingly accepted (wierd since NWU is probably one of the best in the country).
Haha my interview wasn't so good either. I didn't really take it seriously cuz I thought i didn't have a chance in hell of getting in, so I just kinda sat around and joked with the psychiatrist who was interviewing me the whole time. I even started off the interview when he asked me "why do you want to be a doctor" by doing the *rubbing my fingers together* and saying "oh, the money.... heh heh heh just kidding." Probably not the smartest way to do it but since they accepted me, i guess it was a good gutsy move on my part. I don't know what got me in; I always thank that computer glitch that accepted me.

oh yeah, its hard to get into these programs..... you gotta be tops in class, and have good sat, and volunteer stuff. I had basically no volunteer, no research.... but i got in due to my scores probably.

and about dr. kevin --- its all good, he's telling the truth..... but watch out for him if you are macking out the ladies -- he is a massive cockblock. haha.

Yes, you certainly stand a chance. But remember there's gonna be thousands of applicants with your same stats and research. Usually the thing that makes the difference is excelling in something like music, speech, writing, or community service.

just outta curiosity, those who are enrolled in the ba/md programs, what are your current stats? i.e. mcat/gpa? i heard that 2/3 people at usc ba/md program end up going to another med school. this true?

I am currently in the USC B/MD program. Many of our graduates are very competitive for top schools including Harvard, Hopkins, UCSF, UCLA, etc. My stats are 40/4.0

damn u people! those are crazy stats. u'd rather go to sc than some of the ivys/stanford that i'm sure u could have gotten into for undergrad?

i got into yale/harv, the 2 ivies i applied to. chose not to go b/c i felt sc was a better fit at the time. guaranteed spot in med school plus a full scholarship plus some other benefits.

according to some ppl here (hatcher) getting into residency is not dependent on ur med school reputation so by that same reasoning, getting into top medical schools wouldn't depend on ur undergrad school right? HAHAHHAHAHAHA

i know i have to have higher #s than someone going to an ivy b/c of my school. but at least my school is still top 30something. 🙂

Not sure what my unweighted GPA in HS was (weighted was pretty high, like 4.6-something?), but I had an almost perfect SAT, 3 perfect SAT IIs, started a club or two, was leader of 1 or 2, but I had no "med school" type experience like volunteering at a hospital and such. That probably hurt my app the most, as my interview went reasonably okay. Nice and rejected from PLME, and I got waitlisted for general admissions at Brown...

I was accepted to the UCR/UCLA biomedical sciences program. My stats were not that great 1230 SAT, 3.89 GPA, Editor-in-Chief of Newspaper, I had tons of volunteer in medically underserved areas, lots of community service withe the economically disadvantaged, awesome LOR, and great essay.
I decided to go to a liberal arts college instead, besides the UCR/UCLA program is way competitive, 250 are accepted freshman year and the kick people out every year until they have 24 in junior year.

the ucr/ucla prog is also not good at all b/c u don't even do ur first 2 yrs at ucla i heard. u just do it at ucr

and i believe u get differen't degrees than ppl who got into ucla the regular way, tho not sure.

anyway, its not a real guaranteed med program if they gonna cut it down to 10% of original peeps

ecs: junior EMT (basically a EMT except with legal restrictions since i'm not 18), volunteer at hospital, president of science club, editor school newspaper, VP of 2 clubs, research at Columbia University over summer

any advice on interviews in these programs?

You've done some good stuff and your numbers are really good. Write a good essay (find lots of folks to be proofers/critics), prepare for an interview, and you should do well. Think about the USC one (unless you're averse to the West Coast), and the Brown-PLME one (which is a great program and also not as small as some of the others, which can be a very good thing--and you have good stats for it). Also, if you're not averse to the Midwest, Northwestern has one, although that might be 6 years, which to me would be way too fast.

Unfortunately, I only have a 29 on my ACT (from the midwest) but I'm hoping that schools will accept me more for my personality and the background of my life through interviews and essay questions. I like to think that I'm great when it comes to communicating to people and I truly do believe that I have a sort of gift when it comes to handling tough situations and feeling for others in a way that makes people open themselves up to me.

I'm in quite a few clubs at my school, but I'm not president or anything like that.
I've just recently started shadowing doctors, and I went to mini medical school my junior year and I volunteer every week at a hospital

To be brutally honest, you dont have a chance at PLME. You also dont have a chance at the other programs you mentioned unless you are a URM. I would recommend going balls to the wall for the ACT and retaking.

I was in a large state school's BS/MD program, before I transferred out from the lackluster quality of education.

I don't totally agree, i think you may have a chance, it depends on your SAT (>1550) and AP scores(must be 5 in Science and math).

While I wouldn't say that you have a 0% chance of admission, I would say that the chances are fairly low. These types of programs tend to be very competitive regarding test scores/GPA. Is there a chance for a retake on the ACT?

Assuming this post contains the strongest elements of your BS/MD application, I think your chances are < 1% at PLME and USC. I'm not familiar with the other two, but probably negligible at them also.
