if 72800 ppl applied to pharmacy school this year and there are around 90 schools of pharmacy...that will give an average of 800 per school...which...if each school take an average of 90 ppl that will give us 1/9 chance to get in a school....

which...given a qualified(meet all the requirements to apply) applicant, if one applied for more than 9 schools...from high ranking to low distributed equally...then one should have a 99.9% chance of acceptance....

but usually the 0.1% take place because ppl do not randomly choose their schools to apply or attand. Also the differences in preferences of certain schools and the applicants.

Interesting?
I really think wait listing can drive someone crazy. me as one example. :scared:

65% of people applying to pharmacy school did not originally intend to.
43% of those people get into pharmacy school during their first attempt/application.
72% of those people try again the following year.
76% of those people matriculate.
37% of the remaining people try again the year after that.

93% of statistics are made up on the spot.

😀

How did you get into pharmacy school with that logic?

I suspect you've retaken calculus roughly 25 times.

Anyway. Here's some math for you: 72800 divided by 90 equals ~809. therefore each school has roughly 809 applicants (this is all based on such ridiculous assumptions to begin with I have trouble carrying on...)

If they take 90 people a school thats 0.11% chance of acceptance based on pure statistic percentage. If I have a 0.11% chance of acceptance, just because I apply to 10 more schools will not increase that to a 100% chance of acceptance. Why would anyone even visit this forum if everyone had an automatic invite if they just applied to 10 schools no matter where.

The only thing that will dramatically effect that rate is your own personal stats, ie gpa volunteer experience etc.

Wow...no offense...but my mistake to get you upset about my math ability or my little ironic feelings about statistic....

I didn't intend to get in anywhere with that logic..actually I only to prove statistic doesn't work in most cases.

theratically...statistic is an estimation of data from a population. so...809/800 is still correct given +/- standard errors. 😛
by the way, thank you for the concern, I happened to get As on my calculus classes all in one shot, but that didn't help me get in anywhere either.
Don't take it personal, dude.....the beauty of statistic is that there is no wrong or right interpretations..it's just a tool for whatever means of use

simma' down! The issue wasn't 800 vs. 809  i think Requiem meant to say that one's chances of getting accepting to individual schools are not additive in the way you made it out to be. The lesson is that even if you don't put all your eggs in one basket, it doesn't guarantee acceptance.

I totally agree with you...
GPA, EC, interview are the major things..but apply to more places are getting you more opportunities althrough not neccessarily true for everyone..
but the 800 vs 809 and calculus ability thing really hurt my little black heart. I got 800/800 on my GRE math. and 99% on PCAT math. but those are not to guarantee anything either....

Ok, i'm sorry to continue with this but I take it english is not your first language. So I have no idea what you're trying to imply but seriously you're not making any sense.

How can you agree with her, if she's agreeing with me, and I disagreed with you. I honestly don't have any idea how you got those percents unless you cannot express yourself clearly, which I think is the case. Because a 99% PCAT math shouldn't believe every pharm student has a 99.9% chance of acceptance if they apply to 10 schools.

Anyway the thing we all agree on is individual characteristics strengthens chances, not how many applications.

Anyway no hard feelings, I just think you aren't perfectly articulate of what you actually mean in your statements.

I'm sure Amy was trying to make a joke out of it. There's no need to get all mad and upset.

I took it as a joke.

What do you gain by pointing out that English may not have been Amy's second language?

Honestly... You could have made your point while being civil about it.

It's funny how agitated people get over something like this. I myself took a variation of what Amy did, which I deemed the "Shotgun Approach."

Applied to a butt load and to see what I could hit. =)

i agree with ookellyoo and vafcarrot-

i think amy was just trying to blow off a little steam. the waiting game is stressful on everyone who goes through it, i think amy was just trying to find a little light in the tunnel!!! relax everyone!!!!
