statistics courses

Hey, does anyone know if statistics courses count in BCPM GPA even if they're taken in a psychology or economics department? Would a "quantitative methods" psychology course be included? I know in general statistics counts as math, but does the department/course title matter?

Statistics counts ... don't worry about the department. It's the content of the course that matters. 🙂

yep, ucla is right. statistics does count, and as a matter of a fact it is a required course for some of the science majors in my school.

I hate to differ with you guys on this, but as far as I remember, if you take a look at the AMCAS instructions... BCPM means what it says, namely Bio, Chem, Math and Physics.... if the course doesn't have one of those 4 department names on it than it won't be included.... I had the same deal.. I was a psych and econ major back in college, took a stats course through the psyc dept and several quantitative, calculus-based economics courses, none of them counted.... sorry 🙁

I'm an econ major and had to take a stats class so I took Business Statistics. I put it under Math on AMCAS and it was verified as part of my BCMP. The course was BUS304 - Business Statistics. I think that as long as they see "statistics" in the title, they will trust you when you say it was a math course.

Hmm, that's interesting. I had e-mailed AMCAS this very question and was told to use my own discretion. I even got BCPM credit for a psychology class that I took because of the content. I guess it really depends on the class. 🙂
