Hello, I am going to apply for physical therapy schools in a couple years, and im trying to figure out what to do about my statistics grade. I got a C- in math based stats as an unmotivated freshman. If I retake the course and get an A, it wont raise my gpa. However, on PTCAS most schools will accept a statistics from another department, like psychology or biostats. Should I take one of those and raise my gpa? GPA is a 3.2 and Im trying to raise it as much as possible in these last 60+ credits, to 3.5+.

Pt programs generally do not accept pre-reqs below a "C" so yes I would retake a statistics course

as Futuredpt01 said no school that i have heard of takes anything below a C. Additionally i took a stats class through my major (that i was assured by my adviser would work for any school since it was a math based class and carried the same weight. however when it came time to apply last year several schools i applied to denied me because i lacked a statistics course. (the same one i had been told would be applicable by my advisers) so ALWAYS double check when doing gradschool its always better to be safe then sorry.

If I am not accepted this year, I will do the same thing. I took stats from a math department and got a sub-par grade my first semester of college. I will take biostats and use that toward my prerequisite GPA. The blemish of the original class you took never goes away, but at least it doesn't have to count toward your prereq stat. Biostats is widely accepted, so if you have that option, that is the route I would take. Good luck!

what was your major?

RETAKE any pre-req class!!!! This is how PTCAS works. The better grade counts. First time I applied I thought retaking a pre-req class at a near by community college is a bad look. However, that was the very reason I didnt get in. Second time around, I buckled down retook all my non-A grades and got A's and guess what even though my GPA was still low. The retakes got calculated in somehow and got me into a program. Don't be lazy and retake.
