Stats of Applicants to Irish schools and Acceptance, Waitlist or Rejection

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I inquired ABP about this, whether accepting one school will prevent other acceptances and I got: No. The schools want the best students. Period.

wow......looks like NUIG sent all their rejections letters today cause I just received one through email. 🙁

I think you are correct Tigerman. After I recieved my letters from UCC and RCSI the other schools never contacted me.

Either way I was still going to decline their offer because TCD has always been my first choice.

Just that it makes me wonder, why would NUIG wait until now to give their first rejections without even giving out any acceptances.Does it have any thing to do with TCD's deposit deadline(April 8)? 🙄

Anyway, I wish you guys good luck !

Tigerman

I haven't received feedback from NUIG, yet; no letter in the mail nor email. I've applied to TCD and NUIG. Assuming a TCD rejection (haven't received written confirmation of that). US applicant. I'm afraid to email ABP because I don't want to annoy them regarding my application.

Unless you've emailed many times before, I wouldn't be too worried about annoying them. They understand that this is a stressful time for applicants.

I was one of the first people to hear back from the irish schools, getting letters from both UCC and RCSI. My deposit went in and then limerick interview invitations went out. There was no reason for me not to get the invitation. This leads me to believe that I am "withdrawn" from the applicant pool as soon as I accept a spot. I would have went to RCSI regardless of the limerick decision though.

And yeah I kind of agree with this withdrawl system, if it exists. I didnt wana get billed another shipping charge by fedex.

I'm not entirely sure of this superdoc. When I emailed ABP about possibly receiving a 2nd round offer from UCD after accepting RCSI, they said that was entirely possible, and if you wanted to switch you could but they said that they would hope you would just stick to what you chose, but the choice is yours.

really? hmm thats strange. I dont think I know anyone that got an invitation following their deposit. If anyone gets an invitation later this month (from an irish school) following their acceptance, please fill us in.

I emailed the ABP in regards to if our applications are Withdrawn due to accepting at other schools... their response was that this is not the case, your application is NOT withdrawn because you accepted at another school (ie RCSI, UCD, Galway, UCC etc) there is still the possibility of being accepted.

Do the other schools know if you accepted somewhere already, though? Maybe they make their choice based on that fact? Maybe not..

Yeah I asked them the same question, about being withdrawn from the applicant pool, months ago and they said no the other schools are not aware of your decision. Also, even though you have accepted somewhere you can always switch to another school. So im finally going to post my stats:

I live in: Houston, Texas
I'm currently in: High school, 12th grade
My High School GPS: 4.72 out of weighted 5.0
Extracurriculars: Honor societies, volunteer work, officer positions in school clubs, etc.

I applied to: NUIG, UCD, RCSI
I had an interview at: RCSI
I was accepted at: RCSI, UCD
I was waitlisted at: none
I was rejected from: NUIG (today)
I'm going to: UCD!!! 6-year program 🙂

is anyone else going to UCD for the 6 year program? I've seen a few for RCSI, but none for UCD.

I dont think thats true. I got accepted to both. 😍

Thats because you got the letters at the same time.

I think there is confusion on these forums of what "accepted" actually means. I am talking about paying down a deposit and sending documents to abp telling them you will attend a particular school. Other students are treating "accepted" as getting a conditional offer of admission, which is not the same thing. Either way, abp says that this wont impact further offers of admission.

im still rooting for you tachion. There may be a small second wave of admissions from irish schools over the next several months. Dont give up all hope yet 😛

Hi Tigerman.

Thats funny cause its the other way around for me. I want to live in Galway - it's the cultural hear of Ireland! Dublin is nice too!

Congrats SP01 ! Trinity is my first choice because my main goal is to come back and practice in North America and reputation does matter when it comes to residency. Galway's a great school too and it was my second choice.
I'm quite surprised that there are no more spots left at Trinity and Galway since I know that a few other people that have applied there and were told by ABP that these schools would keep making offers in the summer too.

Tigerman

I got accepted to NUIG and Trinity today by email! Atlantic Bridge said there are no more spots left at either school. Didn't think I could get in since I applied only three weeks ago! I was getting impatient and emailing and calling Atlantic Bridge every day until they agreed to accept me. Erin go Bragh! I have a few weeks until the deposit is due. Galway, baby, yeah!!

My Stats: US
GPA: 2.9 (partied too much in undergrad) (U of Florida - finishing a BA in History)
EC: Honors Society, EMT, gymnastics for ten years
Applied in March
Accepted: Trinity and Galway
First choice: Galway! See you there!

Wow! You've got to be kidding me. Congrats! Either I'm way too sleep-deprived or... this is actually true? I'm really, really impressed by your acceptance to both Trinity and Galway with a GPA of 2.9 and having only applied three weeks ago! Amazing!

How many years will you be doing?

Who else iz joining me in galway? I heard about 20 peeps got accepted this week and the spots are filled. I kno your out there! Represent, baby!

Have you received your acceptance packages yet? If not, did ABP say when you'll be receiving them via Fedex?

congrats SP!! thats so awesome!! totally deserved. In my opinion i think that past acceptance's on this forum and SP01's really have showed everyone to keep striving for their dreams. It's not all about just getting a great cumulative GPA, there are so many other factors that are taken into account ( i.e. personal suitability, essay, experience, upward trend of marks in subsequent years, references). I think these irish schools really look for the "whole package" and don't just take into account MCAT and GPA... wish that Canada did this a little more because there are so many great applicants that never get accepted simply because their MCAT or GPA was that bit lower.

I'm really hoping this is the case!

There can't be no spots left...they probably sent out the maximum amount of offers and then the next round will sent out when people choose a different school. Logically you would think there is a lot of overlap of acceptances so not everyone can say yes to every school...

According to ABP:

"Second round offers should start going out from April onwards. Remember offers will be going out over the next several months, and there may be a third round of offers so please be patient.

As for RCSI interviews, they will be held in May. If called you will receive 3 weeks notice beforehand."

Impressive....cGPA of 2.9 (with an excuse of partying too hard?) with a major in the arts, without a science background (and I suppose without any clinically related research) and no MCAT...you must really have one heck of a CV or resume/Extra-curricular activities. Don't know how you managed to apply after the deadline of 03/15 (more than three weeks ago) since most med schools are very strict about having things in on time! Amazing....Anyways, congrats and I suppose it's nice to see the Irish schools are seeking outside the box....In reality, it would be difficult to even get pass any US med school pre-screens with a 2.9 (or science background), even with a stellar MCAT - you're one step closer to your "dream"!

There are plenty of spots left according to ABP and offers will go out later in April and extend into the summer months (2nd round offers will come soon, maybe a third). Interviews will be held in May like Idesofmarch already mentioned, with 3 weeks notice....

Just heard back from ABP saying that the admissions process will take a while, that there is a long way to go. They even didn't confirm that NUIG offers were made, so I'm slightly casting SP01's claims in doubt now.

I can confirm that NUIG has been sending out offers and I sincerely doubt that all the places have been taken.

Like I said in another thread, the average gpa for trinity in the 5 year program is like a 3.6-3.7, so I have no idea how he was accepted with a 2.9

Just a note for those of you thinking about taking the following advice:

I was getting impatient and emailing and calling Atlantic Bridge every day until they agreed to accept me.

Yah don't wrry about that! I prolly called Pete and Finbar over 10 times in the last two weeks. I kept emailing the schools, too! Their hecka easy going!!! Persist and you will succeed, Tachycon!

Please reconsider, for the sake of preserving the precious time of ABP, who told me the following: "we have many applications and we are doing our best to work through the process but it is going to take a little time."

Also, note the following policy from ABP's FAQ:

"So, we ask you to please be patient during the admissions season. If you do not hear from the admissions committees, it is not because they have forgotten you, but because they are giving thorough consideration to the many hundreds of applications they must evaluate. It is a difficult, labor-intensive and time-consuming process. Applying pressure to our staff, university staff or to the admissions committees will do nothing to increase your chances of selection."

Completely agree - I was about to post the same thing. It clearly states in the application policy that "harassing" ABP offices or the admissions of the schools you are applying to has no positive effect on your chances of admission. I also highly doubt that by "calling them everyday until they accepted me" was the actual case that SP01 was admitted (if in fact, they were truly accepted) - namely because ABP has no decision related influences on admissions (they are essentially the middleman - just like AMCAS). If anything, an inability to be patient throughout this process serves to show immaturity.

Yes these are offers of acceptance and some have been accepted. I have been offered a spot for 1 and I know another who accepted his.

Hey -- just got an email from ABP regarding an acceptance letter to UCD for graduate entry program. Have not received the package yet -- does anyone know how long I will have to accept? Still waiting to see if I get an offer from RCSI or Trin. Surprised I didn't get an initial interview at RCSI, but from some of the previous messages on this board, I guess they're doing another round in May?

From: Hamilton, Ont.
GPA - 3.5
MCAT - 33O
Degree in Medical and Health Physics, MSc. in Medical Physics.

Congrats on UCD! I was just going to ask if any one had heard about 2nd round interviews...I know that they should be going out soon because the interviews are supposed to be beginning of May and you get 3 weeks notice. I don't know how it will work for me because I took the GAMSAT in March and won't have a score til May. Does RCSI give acceptances at all without any interview? Since they accept people taking the GAMSAT/MCAT until April 29th...

Congrats emighb!! Seems like all the universities/colleges give 3 weeks for deposit + answer from the date in the letter.

nice, I told you lol. You were so stressed out. But now youve got good news! we should grab some pints in dublin (im at rcsi). By the way trin is 5 years and ucd and rcsi are 4 year.

FYI: I heard from ABP today. Second round offers will be going out for Trinity and Galway in the upcoming few weeks. There's still spots and not to waste time on rumors you hear in MSG boards.

Any word about the other schools (UCD/RSCI/Cork/Limerick)?

Thanks

RCSI: Interviews in May and you will hear if you have one 3 weeks before.

Don't know about the other schools.

Yes, I heard the same thing.

I'm wondering whether that means if we don't hear by early May from RCSI then we're done for? I don't know whether there have been late interviews from RCSI traditionally.

Hey guys, I'm sure this has been repeated but I want to double check! I am just finishing up my 2nd yr (Undergrad) and have been looking into the ABP this past year. On the site it mentions that I need to complete an undergrad degree to apply for the 4yr program. But the admissions person that I have been emailing let me know that had I written my mcat before April, I would have been able to apply to the 4 year programs :s
Is what he told me correct or was it a mix up. Thanks in advance!

Maybe he thought I was a 4th year aha. Thanks for the confirmation though!
Also, is RCSI considered the best of the schools there? I have been looking into all the schools and it seems that people here (Canada) seem to consider Trinity and RCSI as the top notch schools over there. Is that true? If so, then what makes them better than the rest?

All good schools...they shouldn't be considered backup schools by any means. Have a look around these forums and general google searches....Each school has its pros and cons...just depends on what your aspirations, goals, and learning style, etc.

As for your previous post, you are only eligible for 4year GEP if you hold a bachelors and have written the MCAT. Completion of high school makes you eligible for 6 year entry, while completion of high school and some university level education will be at the discretion of the med school on whether you gain 5 year admission or 6 year admission....(both of these are without MCAT scores)

Good luck!
