ABP emailed a response to me this afternoon stating that UCD second rounds go out later in April. Perhaps they are trickling out acceptances already? Not sure...but the email clearly stated that second round offers will start to go out in the next two weeks....

Thanks for letting the rest of us know. Now for another nail-biting couple of weeks. :scared:

I too have to make a decision for an opportunity and I have 14 days to do this. I would like something this week from across the Atlantic.

Has anyone heard from Limerick or Cork yet? I think Limerick was suppose to be sending out invitations for interviews in late April.

Today I received an e-mail from a lady at NUI Galway that I e-mailed to try to show extra interest...she forwarded my e-mail around and I could see the correspondence.

She said:

That's right, Geraldine. I refer all of these communications back to Atlantic Bridge as they accept applications and recommend applicants to us.

...I was under the impression that ABP sent all of our applications overseas and not "made recommendations"? Anyone have any idea?

Wow, I was also under the impression that ABP only acted as a middle man - simply forwarding updates and applications to the schools...if this is actually the case, then the game completely changes. Makes sense tho...they have complete access to our records, etc. and are a recruitment office for north american applicants.

In either case, news should be coming soon in the next few weeks. Just relax and stay positive 🙂

Yeah the game does change. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing! 😕

Not sure what it means...and not that I have emailed them a ton but I would have probably have taken a slightly different approach had I known that. Hopefully we start hearing something soon...

Update from ABP today:

The dates for RCSI interviews have not been finalized yet but I would think it would be around the middle of the May or later in May.

Second round offers should be going out from UCC, UCD and NUIG later this month/early next.

Thanks a bunch, almost there!

Yeah my dad, who is a GP in Ireland, called NUIG to ask why I didn't get an offer from there, even though I listed Galway as my first choice and got offers from UCD and RCSI; the lady he talked to on the phone said that they had never even seen my name on the application list, and also that ABP sends them who they should extend offers to. It was quite the shocker.

Does this apply to only NUIG? or for all the schools associated with ABP.

Thanks!

Hey, I was accepted at Trinity a few weeks back and used these forums to help me with my own decision, so here goes:

I'm from: United States
My country of citizenship is: United States
My undergrad degree is: Bachelor of Science (GPA ~ 3.7)
MCAT: N/A
I applied to: TCD
I was accepted at: TCD (~ week of 3/21)
I was rejected from: N/A

I accepted TCD's offer and will most likely be attending come September. Pretty pumped!

Best of luck to those who still haven't heard a word yet. Keep your head up

I am in total shock! I would have been a little less annoying about e-mailing and maybe a little bit more enthusiastic about one particular school if I had known ABP was actually involved. I feel as though they are kind of deceptive about this. Granted, I still have not heard from 4 schools. But I have an image of my application just sitting in the "no" pile. I wonder how this works with schools sending the same applicant pool to all GEP programs, or what. Wow...

Also the funny thing about this is when people talk about some schools favoring research more, etc. it kind of feels biased if ABP is literally solely deciding the applicant pool. I originally found some relief when I was rejected from Trinity when I was thinking oh well they may favor this and not that, and perhaps they didn't like the style of my essay, or something....but if our applications are all decided at the hand of one entity, its kind of weird.

I can confirm this. I spoke to the head admissions officer at NUI Galway and my application was never forwarded to them. So, since Fall of 2010, ABP has had my application and NUI Galway has never received it nor even heard of me. According to them, ABP presents around 20 applications they feel are the best and NUI Galway chooses from there. All first round offers were sent out for both the five and six year programs.

So, it looks like I'm done for this cycle. That's okay, 2012 AMCAS is coming up so I'm preparing for better results with that. Good luck, everyone!

I'm very sorry to hear that! Thanks for letting us know. All the best!

hey guys, I'm waiting to hear from RCSI for second round interviews (spec in Toronto) anyone heard from them yet? I know they said 3 weeks before the interview date... for that matter does anyone know when the interview is scheduled in Toronto? just so I can stop praying frantically after a certain point😛

Its unfortunate last year I'd gotten in and rejected the offer with little stress by this date... this year I actually wanna go and nothing but nailbiting.....suppose that's how life works huh?

thanks in advance!

Curious, why would you reject last year's offer only to opt and try again this year?

From experience, if you reject one school....they are unlikely to consider you again without some validating reason. And this year's interviews are either in New York or Toronto (not decided yet).

They haven't gone out yet, Finbar told me today that the date also hasn't been set yet because I needed it for something and he only could tell me probably more towards the end of May. Obviously if the dates aren't set...invites aren't out yet!

Thanks for the update. I haven't heard anything from RCSI either. Please let us know once you hear from them.

ABP tends to be quite vague at times, eh?

I was one of the first people to hear back from the irish schools, getting letters from both UCC and RCSI. My deposit went in and then limerick interview invitations went out. There was no reason for me not to get the invitation. This leads me to believe that I am "withdrawn" from the applicant pool as soon as I accept a spot. I would have went to RCSI regardless of the limerick decision though.

In light of recent events indicating that abp handpicks its applicants, I continue support my initial statement. You are withdrawn from the application unless u specifically contact abp and tell them you still wish to be considered for the remaining schools.

really? are you sure about this?
i didn't know that... that doesn't bode well for me!

to answer your q, I rejected it because i applied mostly out of panic; i was shocked like most first year students at the drop in marks from HS to Uni... by the time my interview rolled around I had calmed down considerably, and decided to give it some more time here. However various things (including a LOT of bs i've seen in uni) have made me regret my decision to defer and i decided i still have time to make the switch (unfortunately this realization came rather late, i believe my application was marked complete around march 3rd or something.

I'm tempted to email him saying i'll defs accept this if they take me😛

EDIT oh and moose/atran, thanks for the update!

I'll share my experience so far in case it is helpful to anyone. I applied to Royal, Limerick, Cork and Dublin.

I have so far only heard back from Royal. I received a rejection letter late last week.

In an email on March 29th, Finbar informed me that Limerick's interview offers were being sent at that time via email. The interviews were supposed to take place in mid-April. If you get an interview, you will be notified at least 3 weeks prior. I expect to receive a rejection letter from Limerick some time soon.

According to an email I received on Nov 29/10, Cork and Dublin usually finalize their first rounds of offers in late Mar or early Apr. At that time they may accept, deny or wait-list the applicant. I hope to hear from these two schools by the end of the month.

A colleague of mine already received an offer from Cork and Royal but hasn't heard from Dublin and Limerick yet.

I'm not sure, but I guess it's for all schools because why would they do that for only one school? You can always call and check if they've even seen your application. I thought it was very strange how they didn't give my app to Galway, even though I listed it as my first choice and told them my family used to live a few hours away. It was sort of heartbreaking, being rejected from UCG and all...but now I have UCD to look forward to so it's not that bad 🙂

Good point. At the same time, however, maybe Galway is more selective and/or has a smaller international student body than the other schools (e.g., we don't see too many posts from Galway on these forums). Who knows.

Sorry to hear that Tachyon. I was hoping both of us would get in. If you're taking/retaking the MCAT, let me know if you want any help from me. I ended up with a 12 (iirc) on the PS and the Verbal section. Feel free to PM. I will keep my fingers crossed for you though, as there may still be hope. I have still not heard anything from any of the schools. I'm not sure what I'll do if I don't get in as going through the app cycle again is daunting.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there are a lot more people who still haven't had any offers or news by this time, as compared to the previous years?

It is annoying that the ABP could not be up front and honest. I contacted trinity and asked if there ever receive my application, if not what are my chances of being picked if I was selected the first time. Overall nothing from NUI. what does that mean no clue indeed. Not being negative just annoyed a little.... But back to the drawing boards. Oh yea the best thing is that we found out the truth about ABP in regards for future applying. That's me being positive

Hm this is complete speculation on my part - but I thought that hand picked thing was only for Galway? Cause wasn't it only recently you could select them and apply to them through ABP?

It could be that the apps to the schools other than Galway are filtered. Perhaps only the applications that followed ALL the directions are forwarded, while the incomplete/ones that didn't follow the instructions to the letter aren't, making it seem like they have a larger part in the selection process than they do?

Again, speculation on my part. Wish I knew where I stand in terms of chances of acceptances/etc at this point.

Good point. Let's not rush to conclusions at this moment.

Hoping all is well 🙂

The apps that didn't follow directions probably wouldn't be sent. I'm pretty sure it's not about following directions though, because my app wasn't sent to UCG but I received offers from UCD and RCSI lol.

Again, i'm just speculating, but it could all be a matter of how well the ABP office feels you "fit" with the schools you are applying for...In the end, they have received thousands of applicants over the years, deal with the schools admissions offices, and probably have a good "feel" for which applicants would be considered competitive for each school. Screening on their part makes less work for the admissions committees at each school.

ABP told me that a second round of offers will go out in early May. I guess nothing else will be happening till then. Seems like another 2 weeks of no news.

Thanks for sharing. Early May oh man. Did I mention I hate waiting?

They were saying early April, and then late April, now early May?

Let's embrace the wait and take it in stride.

To add to the encouragement, I'm reminded of a great philosopher who once said:

"Ain't about how fast I get there.
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side.
It's the climb"

Picked up some mail from my old place and had a Trinity rejection letter dated March 30th. 🙁

Some great philosopher....that miley cyrus.....she must definitely know what it's like to apply to medical school.......

This morning I received a email from ABP that I was accepted to Limerick four year program. I was told I will be receiving a package via courier in the first week of May.

I interviewed on Friday April 15th in Toronto

Congrats! I did not apply to Limerick, but does anyone know if ABP always e-mails first about acceptances or is it only in response to e-mails sent that are asking status updates?
