Stats of Applicants to Irish schools and Acceptance, Waitlist or Rejection

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
also are those acceptances to med schools? cuz if that's what you mean you are definately not telling the truth cuz you need at least 2 years uni experience to get into canadian med schools...

I was just thinking the same thing.

Pretty sure its implied that the Canadian schools are science/biomedical programs and not medical schools. 🙄

When's the earliest I could request for application package to be considered for next cycle?

When's the earliest I could request for application package to be considered for next cycle?

Most likely mid-summer, June, July or so. Roughly the same time AMCAS etc open up.

Sooo I havent heard anything from any of the schools I applied to back in November (UCC, UCD, RCSI and NUIG). I know all the first round offers and interviews are out but I havent gotten a rejection yet, soo as long as no rejection letter comes do I consider myself still in the game? Im starting to get pretty pessimistic...

yes. just not as strong of an app as the first round acceptances assuming you're sure they received it/100% completed.

also, looking back at last year's history - rejections were sent out starting around 3/24.

Thanks. yeah its all there. called Finbar, poor guy sounded kind of irritated haha I can only imagine he's getting a hundred calls a day from applicants like me. But thats what he said, no acceptances and no rejections, and stay positive hopefully something works out!

wow rejection letters were sent in March, that early?
Did Finbar tell you no rejections for you, or in general?

Hmmm good question. what he said was "well not to worry, your doing fine, you dont have any acceptances there but no regrets either. Its still early days, unfortunately we just have to be patient..."

But good call, I cant see rejections being put out this early but then again, I really have no idea how the process works. It seems alot of people here know what to expect much more than I do

Thanks! He made it sound like rejections were sent out to some..or maybe that's just me...

sigh, the wait is the worst. If I'm rejected I'd rather know now

yeah I hear that, he made it sound like rejections were sent out and I didnt get one haah...hmm tricky little guy.

For everyone that is attempting to use the credit card statement as an indicator, don't lose hope when nothing appears! I was accepted last Monday, the 19th, to RCSI and my credit card statement just appeared today.
Just thought some people might be interested in knowing.

FYI: If you have access to your bank information online, you can check the remaining balance on your CC account. If you know how much you have used your CC so far, you can find out how much the expected remaining balance. If you notice there is a discrepancy in the remaining balance i.e. by $20-30 you know someone has used your CC recently. You won't see the statement where it has been used until a few days to a week later (VISA takes time to update the information), but the remaining balance will be very current as of that hour you check. You can find out where it has been used by simply calling VISA (24hrs service).

This was what I did when I noticed the discrepancy in my CC in the middle of the night and they told me Atlantic Bridge Program charged my CC earlier that day. The actual statement did not appear until a week later, but I knew my remaining balance was off by about $30 that night. That very same night I called FEDEX and asked them to search if any package is being sent to XYZ address. Unfortunately, FEDEX is slow too in updating the information. So, I called them first thing the next morning and they said YES a package is on its way, sent from California named Atlantic Bridge Program. Just an FYI from my experience. =D

something along the same lines was said to me early last week. he didnt talk about any regrets, but said for me not to worry and that its still early days.

so if we havent till today got a rejection letter, it means we're being considered for second round? that gives me a lot of hope, and maybe makes me think that because my app was completed end of january, thats possibly why I didnt get an interview for rcsi or heard anything from trinity.

I'm so tempted to contact the schools directly inquiring about my application status. Is that a good idea and are they helpful in these kinds of questions, or do the schools get annoyed, because thats essentially what ABP is there for (answering questions from North American applicants)?

Im not really sure, I emailed cork in February asking about my application and pretty much just got an a reply with the ABP email address ahah. Maybe at this point they may be a bit more helpful. I cant see it hurting at all but it seems everything just gets directed to AB anyway.

Id kind of like to know if the schools have even seen my application because Ive read on here that a lot of people think AB pick what applications they think are best and send off...But I have no idea if thats true but it would be interesting to see what the schools have to say about my application in the meantime!

Lol. Next thing you know, you guys/gals are going to start tapping into NORAD to figure out whether your letters are on their way.

Blazers- as for directly calling schools, TBH, I don't imagine they'd give any more or less direct of an answer. Just be patient since worrying doesn't help anyone. As someone said, the ABP office itself probably gets tons of calls each day about these things. While they are nice people and they probably expect these things, it gets tiring after a while.

I agree with akaVonk. Just wait and see guys. I know the waiting is hard, but that's all you can do really right now. And yes, last year rejections were going out 3/24 (just check this thread's last year posts). But many of us didn't hear anything til well into April/May/June. It IS really early in the process.

when will second round offers for trinity go out? when did they go out last year?

just got my rejection letter from RCSI. not too worried about it. on to the next one.

someone last year got a rejection at the end of march for rcsi. So looks like RCSI may have sent some rejections all ready this year, and if you havent got one till now, you maybe being considered for second round

has anyone else not paid for fedex delivery but has gotten an acceptance letter?

I've always wondered how ABP transmits application materials to the schools in Ireland? Do they copy and email it, or do they mail it? Or are they basically the ones who make the final decisions on applications on behalf of the schools?

It always seems that when you call ABP regarding your application, they have it available.

hmmmmm good question. Only realizing it now that you mention it...

I figured that they have some sort of online database similar to AMCAS where ABP uploads our information and then the schools can access it and use it to make their decisions. There is no way that ABP makes the decisions. The schools must be the ones who decide who will be attending their programs. I could be wrong but it seems like a logical way of doing things.

But then they would ask us to send our applications forms and statements by email no? What's the point of us sending it via mail for them to just scan it onto a system? I have a feeling ABP has a lot more to do in the process than just simply transferring it to the other schools, and old posts say that ABP "recommends" apps to the schools

It would be far more difficult and time consuming to verify the authenticity of emailed transcripts and letters of recommendation. AMCAS does the exact same thing when you apply to American schools. Its a smart system. You send all your documents to one place and then they consolidate the information in a database and then all of the schools you apply to have access to your information. The job however of ABP is more difficult because they have to attempt to convert the GPAs of people applying on different systems internationally and attempt to convert it to a single standardized scale.

They might recommend people but I couldn't imagine a school would accept people without themselves evaluating the candidate.

I could be wrong but it seems like a logical and efficient way of doing things.

either way, regardless of what they do with the applications, I still havent heard back from them about any of the schools I applied to! D: hahhahahahha.

Any news with anyone else out there "patiently" waiting?

Does anyone know if I have a shot at any med schools with a 3.0 and 31 from U of T?

I noticed I haven't posted my status, so here you go...

Letter of Acceptance 12 March 2012

Location: Toronto, Canada
Currently studying: BSc (University of Toronto)
CGPA: >3.7

I applied to: TCD, UCD, RCSI
I was accepted at: TCD
I was waitlisted at: none
I was rejected from: none
First choice: TCD>UCD>RCSI (RCSI is great but I am not financially prepared)

I will be attending TCD this coming Fall to start my medical journey! I am looking forward to the day I board the plane to Dublin =D

I am looking to rent an off campus place and start searching for direct plane ticket from Toronto to Dublin.

Are there only 3 TCD acceptance (including me) in SDN?

how did you receive your acceptance letter to TCD? FedEx or snail mail?
i didn't pay for the fedex option and I'm waiting to hear back from TCD, NUIG, UCD and UCC. I also live in toronto, which is why I'm asking.

i think if you havent received a rejection yet, that means you are being considered for second round offers. no news is good news

When do they usually start trickling out the second round offers? I talked to RCSI directly and they said sometime after Easter.. weren't very specific about it tho..

ABP told me RCSI holds interviews in May, for which invitations will be sent out 3 weeks prior. So within the next week or so they will start sending them out.

And I'm still unsure whether they even started out sending rejection letters :S hopefully they did because that does mean good news!

For all those anxiously waiting I just wanted to say I'm turning down my acceptance to RCSI's GEP. I hope one of you hopeful candidates gets my place! Wishing everyone the best of luck 🙂 Hope to see you all on the boards when it's time to match!

Not sure, sorry I was just told May. And rejections are sent in the mail

another fedex truckless day for me...womp wompppppp

got my trinity rejection today in the mail. Now that leaves me with RCSI. I havent heard anything from them.

I really am anxious now, about my chances at RCSI. who is the best to contact regarding an honest chance at RCSI. ABP or the school directly?

I don't think anybody will be able to tell you. Just try and occupy yourself with other things. I know how hard it can be. Exercise can be helpful.

Im just so surprised I got rejected and so disappointed. But then again Trinity seems to be highly competitive to get into. I wish I applied to some more Irish schools than just Trinity and RCSI

Look, blazers- I don't see how any of us can further stress how unproductive worrying or trying to contact ABP or any of the schools is. No adcom, Irish or otherwise, is likely to tell you that things are looking one way or another, and even if you get told that your application or stats are "favorable" or "competitive," it doesn't guarantee anything.

Hello blazers,

Here are some people you may want to give a ring at RCSI to inquire about a spot. Perhaps, an evaluator can even make a call on your behalf; a close friend of mine had an evaluator call Mr Curtis shortly after interview - she was accepted not too long after. Know any physicians or surgeons that could call Prof Kelly? He's the administrative dean of RCSI and is a vascular surgeon. Best of luck to you!

Cheers!

Cathal Kelly, dean of the college: +353 1 402 2281
Philip Curtis, senior admissions officer: +353 1 402 2266
Catherine Moloney, admissions assistant: +353 1 402 2248

I got a rejection letter from Trinity today. It was dated March 16th.

I didn't really plan on getting in because of my low undergrad GPA but I figured it was worth the $75 to take a chance applying. I'm on the east coast of the US.

Has anyone used interfolio to send LOR separately from your application?

I've used interfolio. What do you mean "separately from your application"?

It's a pretty easy & convenient system.

My bad. I was thinking that everything other than the application form has to be printed and sent via snail mail. But I guess there's obviously an option for interfolio to fwd it to ABP.
