I'm doing it this summer (with human ES cells). I don't know how I feel about destroying embryos, but there are a variety of new techniques devised in the last year or so that can isolate embryonic stem cells without destroying an embryo, or can isolate the cells from an embryo which has been manipulated to be non-viable.
I have no trouble working with already isolated cell lines, though.
Stem cell research shouldn't be hyped as much as it is by the media, but it's definitely going to produce scientific advances in coming years.
