OK guys, serious question: now that Step 1 is Pass/Fail, does anyone think I have a chance at going back to school and getting my Janitorial Doctorate?

I mean I know the applications will be rough, what with all those people bailing on their DO acceptances for janitor school, but we all know the prestige is worth it. The real question is will it matter if I go to a low tier school? I mean there's no way I'll get into a Top 20 janitor school, especially not with that DO behind my name.

EDIT: Guys, I know there's already a couple threads about this (the original and the 2014 edition), but those haven't been bumped in a while and I wasn't sure if jan school got harder to get into over the years.

Get your head out of your *ss.

I'm worried about my prospects moving forward. However, if I am ultimately relegated to primary care by default - so be it. My plan is to focus on regional programs and associated ACGME programs sponsored by the school I will be attending.

If you are going to a new DO school with no associated ACGME, connections are now the key if they are keeping step 1 P/F.

edit: but who the F* knows

I mean, didn't you go DO many years ago cause you couldn't hack it on the JCAT?

Incoming J1 here. Just so you know, janitor school has gotten much more competitive over the years, largely due to an influx of applicants who abandoned the DO profession. I will be attending a T10 janitor school in the fall. Overall, my application was strong: 98th percentile score on the JanCAT mopping section, 200 hours of shadowing experience with a local elementary school custodian, and a letter of recommendation from a woman who used to clean toilets at the White House. Also, I think my personal statement really expressed my commitment to the basic tenets of janitorial philosophy; it was about an unusually stubborn carpet stain.

DM me if you have any further questions about the process.

I am in the market of hiring a new J, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that I will not even look at any application without a Janitorial Doctorate from one of the T10.

IDK my SDN amigos. I scored low on my JanCAT and started to apply broadly to DCS (Doctorate of Custodial Science) schools. I have an acceptance (some how!) but I'm worried about the Jan vs Custod stigma. But I'm sure the DCS holistic cleaning philosophy classes (4 hrs a week) will be fine

Bro you still get to be a janitor! So what if you can only do “primary” janitorial services still a janitor

Trying to gauge my competitiveness here. What percentile did you score on the toilet cleaning section? Trying to improve in this area but I get light headed every time I get near a toilet when I know I’m about to clean it.

Would JanKaplan or KhanJanAcademy be good resources to improve in this area?

With a low JanCAT, you can still go to a Caribbean Jan School to get your degree. Some schools don't even require a JanCAT, but with that said, you pretty much have 50% chance of coming back to America. And even if you score really high on your USJLE step 1 (69th percentile or higher), you will most likely end up in an undesired location, like Internal Mopping (IM) at Motel 6 middle of nowhere Wyoming (AKA IJG sweatshop) with no chances of sub-specializing; Not even in Industrial Dusting (ID) which is one of the least competitive ones.

Good luck!!!

Edit: And pray to Hygieia, goddess of cleanliness and sanitation, that the NBJE doesn't switch the USJLE to pass/fail.

I am skeptical at this point. I have heard that they are going to combine the match for Janitors and Custodians...do you think that will destroy any chance of getting into a High Rise Specialty or are we just going to be stuck possibly mucking stalls in Wyoming?
