Step 1 Score Cut-off?

Loma Linda is making the cut-off for at least 230, and i haven't heard of other schools actually mentioning cut-off scores except for them...so basically should i assume that if you have around a 230 without research or AOA you probably aren't that competitive for rads!??!

There have been some heated discussions about this on auntminnie.com lately...

In my opinion, you should apply to lots of programs of varying quality, regardless of how competitive you think you are.

My step 1 score was not great, but other factors in my application led to a very successful interview season. I interviewed at most of the top programs in the country, and received better interviews and feedback than most of my peers.

Your step 1 score is one of many, many components of your application. Work hard to round out the rest of your CV so that you have many things to offer, and you will not be ignored.

I think doepug went to a top 20 med school, though (from some posts he or she made on aunt minnie). That is probably the most important factor, so it's fair to mention.

The supposed cutoff at UCSF is 240. Given that this is a top school, I have to wonder.

That said, I go to a state school and a friend of mine in the 220s got an interview at Hopkins through what I understand is skillful schmoozing (I'm not clear on the details)...he may not match there, but if you interviewed there you're probably going someplace good. He was AOA, though.

Why not do some research? even if it's too late for AOA or the Step 2, you can always add some pubs. adds luster to the resume. Most med schools have some research going on.

I don't think you need a 230 to match if you have other things going for you.

Although radiology isn't my bag of worms (it's a great specialty!), I'll offer my two cents:

In my experience, in order to match into rads, you need to hit at least a 230.

Limited experience, but take it for what it's worth....
