I was wondering the importance of step 1 vs comlex... I got a 245 on step 1, but a 579 on comlex level 1

i'm honestly clueless about the scoring for comlex. is my score going to look bad with my step 1, or will most places just look at step 1 anyway?

I know a few people a couple years below me in your year who have had similar results. Stellar Step 1s with relatively mediocre Comlex in comparison. It really just seems like the NBOME has continued to completely screw up how it is scored, making Step 1 more important, again.

Be glad you did as well as you did on Step 1. That's a solid score and you'll have many options. Don't worry about Comlex at all.

COMLEX is simply a crap test. Apply to residency with the strategy of someone with a 245, because no one will care about your COMLEX.

thanks guys. i just didn't know if the score discrepancy would be a major red flag on my app or something... the comlex really was poorly written and the time crunch & amount of questions on it was just stupid... im hoping most residencies won't even really look at it

Most residencies only focus on step 1 score. I’d say a lot don’t know how to interpret COMLEX scores.

The competitive ones yes unfortunately, although the Step won't go completely ignored if the PD is an MD.

Former AOA will likely look at both, but your COMLEX score is fine.

The Step I score is very nice. The COMLEX is somewhat slightly above national average so far. About 1/3rd of my students have taken Level I and are well above national avg...but the Step I scores are all over the place. Very different from last year.

Most PDs will ignore your COMLEX score.
