Hi everyone,

Recently took step 2 cs and am losing sleep over all the possible things I may have done wrong (especially CIS). While I know it is impossible to know for sure if I passed or not, I would like to share my CIS experience and see what others have to say.

Things I did well:

-always greeted the patient in a friendly manner, introduced myself, explained my role
-started with open ended questions
-summarized HPI before moving on to general questions
-offered transition statement before general questions (now I'm going to ask you a few questions regarding your overall health is that okay?)
-made good eye contact
-asked if the patient had any more questions or concerns before physical (answered most of the challenging questions here. not one was awkward, but I never said "sorry you're going through this."
-asked permission before physical
-explained physical
-gave differential and plan with rationale
-asked if patient was okay with plan
-counseled one patient about smoking and another about exercise
-closed by saying "it was a pleasure to meet you, a nurse will be in shortly to help you with the tests, and I will contact you as soon as I get your results."
-overall patient interactions felt normal and comfortable. Not one patient seemed annoyed or upset

Things I may have done wrong:
-never asked directly how condition was impacting patients life
-forgot to counsel 2-3 patients about smoking and one alcoholic (did ask CAGE though)
-may have used some medical jargon without proper explanation
-in about half of the encounters I may have forgotten to close by asking if there were any more questions or concerns. It is impossible to remember

any feedback regarding my experience would be great. Im losing sleep everyday worrying about this test.

I stopped reading as soon as I saw a bulleted list. What you're doing is unproductive and emotionally destructive. No amount of second-guessing today will change the result of the test; it'll just make you miserable until you get your report.

What you're doing right now is very common: you're beating yourself up ahead of time to insulate yourself from the disappointment of failure. If you end up failing the test, you'll say "Yeah, I knew I blew it." If you pass, you'll say "I sure got lucky and dodged a bullet on that one." But here's the truth: a failing result will be disappointing whether or not you torture yourself for the next several weeks. So stop torturing yourself! Learn this lesson now, today, and you'll be happier.

You’re totally right. No amount of feedback will change the result and no amount of worrying will either. Better just to hope for the best. Thanks
