I did well on Step 1 and all my advisors, including student deans and former and current residency directors, have told me I can wait to take step 2 until October or Nov, just to get the score in before rank lists.

I used mainly program websites to look at programs but now looking at FREIDA it seems like a lot of them have "yes" under Step 2 required for interview consideration.

That kinda caught me off guard since I had never head about that at all.

Is it really true that some programs will not offer you interviews until they have that Step 2 score?

If you did well on Step 1 and have good grades and letters of recommendation, my impression is that most programs would offer an interview before the Step 2 score is available. I suspect that there might be a few that would defer an interview offer until they have the score in hand, but I can't quote statistics. However, I would expect that few programs would "rank" an applicant, or at least rank them highly, without a Step 2 score. I encourage my advisees to take Step 2 soon after completing their clerkships, but others may have a different philosophy.

This is true. You can get an interview without taking step II. However, no one in their right mind would rank you without it - well... if the program isn't desperate, they won't rank you.

The issue is this: If you fail step II, you can't start residency. Programs therefore want the reassurance that you have past so you don't leave them SOL.

That's all I needed to hear...I will be taking it at the end of october...plenty of time to submit it before they do their rank list.

Thanks!

is the same applicable for img applicants too? i wont have my cs result on the 15 sept, but i have a previous attempt on cs :/ will they consider to invite me for an interview looking at the rest of my profile which i have worked hard to improve with research and publications in top universities.

I took step 2 after I matched and I interviewed at great places.
