Hi I was wondering if it was possible to take step 2 but keep your results secret in the event you don't do as well as you had hoped. My school is encouraging everyone to take it in september.

Yes, just submit your ERAS application and choose the option of not releasing your updated USMLE transcript without your authorization. If it comes back good, you can then have the score sent. It should make more sense when you start filling your ERAS application later this year. Good luck!

sweet ... thanks

Be aware that programs WILL KNOW that you took Step 2 when your report is sent, they just won't know the score. Therefore, you should be prepared to answer questions like "why didn't you release your Step 2 score"?

I took step 2 late, so I wasn't asked that question. I actually was quite surprised that no one asked me about when I was going to take it and why I delayed it. To the OP, ask yourself if taking step 2 in Sept is helpful or not. I know that your school recommends it, but you might want to talk to review your plans before making that decision.
