When do you take step 3 for ENT residencies? After PGY2?

At least in my program, it doesn't matter. It varies state by state, but I think some programs prefer you get it done your intern year, but some states don't allow you to take it until after your intern year. Check the FSMB (google) website and it will tell you each state's requirements.

Doesn't matter. I think that you have 7 years to get from Step I to Step III. I took mine in my third year. Some smarter buddies of mine took a day off their intership to take theirs. Thats the way to do it.

Hi there,
Take Step III as early as you possibly can take it. If the seven-year rule applies in your state, and you miss your deadline, you have to start over again with Step I. Who would want to take Step I all over again? Not me, once is enough! 😛
