Does anyone still not have interviews?
Its starting to look really bad since its mid november and all ive heard are crickets (and 2 mstp rejections)
 
Same boat - I heard that some people don't get interview offers until later after January... the third cycle of requests has not been sent out yet, or so that is what I heard. But I'm sure all schools do it differently. Maybe someone else has some more concrete information on this. I'm getting antsy as well! 🙁
 
Same here. I haven't heard any good news (7 rejections out of 20 applied). I started to think that there's something very wrong with my application 🙁
 
At this point I think I would send out at least an update letter to schools you are more interested in (assuming you have at least mediocre stats)
 
Some schools do not start looking at OOS canidates until November/December and offer interviews at the first of the year. I had several OOS schools that told me they do not screen OOS until later in the cycle.
 
I finally got good news from schools yesterday. It is not too late to get interview invites. I still have yet to hear from 12 schools; hang in there! Hope you hear something soon!
 
I've had one interview so far, so I suppose I can't complain, but I do feel the same as you. I applied to 15 schools, and have heard from two, one being the interview, the other basically telling me that I've been put in a pool of competitive applicants for later review, which to me seems like they've just brushed me aside until they have the full pool of applicants to compare me to. It really doesn't help that my parents ask me if I've heard anything on a daily basis, and that they've went out of their way to scare the crap out of me about it. Today my mom says "You really have a lot riding on that one interview, you don't want to be in that position. It would be very upsetting if you didn't get in." I ask, you mean that school? And she says, no anywhere(sorry, needed to vent that).

I don't know how strong of an applicant you are, but I feel I'm pretty strong, with a 3.92GPA, 34Q, and a decent amount of volunteering, leadership, and research under my belt. I have a friend who's got similar stats, plus even more research, and lots of extra curricular to boot, as well as double major and she hasn't heard anything, and another friend with good stats, who just completed a his masters at a medical school, and he hasn't heard anything. From everything I've heard, this waiting game is normal, and it seems that a lot of schools, despite rolling admissions, like to build their applicant pool and interview later. It would be nice to get statistics on this.

Just make sure all of your applications are complete and under review. One of the schools I thought I had applied to fairly early informed me my app wasn't complete when I called. One of the essays somehow wasn't marked as submitted, even though it had the thing saved from my submission, so my application had went nowhere and ended up being the last one I had officially submitted. I've also heard of schools not receiving letters of req, holding the app back, and clerical errors, so it's always good to make sure with a phone call that everything is in order.
 
I'm a reapplicant, and I would say the single biggest factor of going from 2 late invites last year to 9 early invites this year was the way I structured my personal statement and essays. My GPA/MCAT were unchanged from last year to this one.

👍 I think that improved a lot for me as well (GPA and MCAT are unchanged). My activities definitely improved as well, but I think the biggest things that go into the invites are GPA/MCAT/PS. Having a plethora of activities is overrated here on SDN, as long as you have some meaningful ones and cover the bases.
BTW I see we are getting into similar schools.
 
It also never hurts to call or email the schools and ask for a status update to let them know you are interested. I have heard of people doing that and finding out good news.

Also, if you have done any new meaningful activites it doesnt hurt to send them an update on you.

Apart from waiting, the one other thing you can do is call all your schools. Ask why they rejected you, make sure your application is complete, or just ask them if you can still expect an interview. Also send update letters.

im sure you'll hear something soon!! and prepare for that interview like crazy!!!
 
yeah I am in the same boat, applied to 15+ schools, haven't heard from ANY of them yet. Many of the schools I applied are top 20 reach schools though.

But I applied really late: my amcas was verified early October, most schools were complete late October. However, it's been almost a month now, I still haven't heard anything.

Anyone as late as I am out there heard from any schools? Man, crickets are everywhere around me, s***.

Last year: 1 interview, from which I was ultimately rejected at the very end after waiting months and months.

This year: Insanely better (interviews at over 50% of schools I applied to), 2 acceptances so far.

I didn't get my rejection until the bitter end, and didn't really quantitatively DO that much more before this cycle. I rewrote everything from the ground up. I am the same person, just much prettier and shinier on paper than last year. It REALLY matters.

FWIW, I'm really pulling for you and I hope you still hear something. No one should have to do this more than once. Good luck! :luck:

dude i don't know anyone who was complete late october - I was complete around 9/15 and I thought I was really late. I have 5 pre-interview rejections and 5 future interviews so far - so hang in there and be patient - im sure you'll hear something soon!!!!!!!
 
Guys, I'm in the same boat. I have been rejected from 4 schools out of the 20 that I applied to. It felt great getting some of secondaries from the schools that screen (ie. Wake, UCLA, VCU, etc.) but ever since I've been complete, the email has died down and crickets began chirping...

Well, I've been accepted at 2 schools so the biggest hurdle has been conquered. 🙂 And I definitely agree that the intangibles (PS, secondaries, etc) play a bigger role than most people realize.

When did you apply? Do you feel your written materials were strong?

Based on your GPA and MCAT, it seems weird that you didn't get any interviews.

What kind of EC's do you have?

I know people hate it when someone does this, but these grammatical errors are startling, and they are not typos.

I know it's petty, but did you have people proof all of your essays? Do you have an unbalanced MCAT verbal score?

Maybe it shouldn't, but I am sure poor writing can tank an app.

Just be ready for people to go over your post with a fine tooth comb looking for grammatical errors when you make a response like this.

Lol, whoops! Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my post. I meant to second what you had said, then direct that last part to the OP. 😳 Congrats though, it is the best feeling in the world to finally make it!

That's a very good point! But I doubt anyone here gives as much attention to their posts as they did to their PS.
 
Same situation. If I'm not getting into med school this cycle, I would at least like a shot at an interview or two along the way. My application isn't that bad 🙂
 
I give up mang. I applied to 30 schools. 5 rejections. 6 Interview holds. The rest are silent. Lettuce begin rewriting our personal statements for our reapps in June 2011.
 
I have a sinking feeling I wont be getting into medical school this cycle. I think it was everything to do with how I projected my self in my PS and I didn't build up my shadowing hours/volunteering hours in the hospital enough. I will for sure put a much, much, much stronger emphasis on my PS and essays this next time around, if it comes to that.

I was in the same boat. Freaking out, planning what I"m going to do with my year off and the stigma of being a reapplicant.

Then, right before I left to drive to MI to see family for turkey day, I checked my email: there it was, shiney, with an unopened envelope marker thing : My very first interview invite. Univ. Hawaii (OOS too! never thought I would actually get an interview)

Congrats on your interview. I gotta say that your application shares a lot of similarities with mine, and I've only had 1 interview as well.

I know, right?! Even if I don't get in (which is more likely than not, 6/60 get accepted), at least I get to go spend a few days in Hawaii. 😀
 
i was pretty pooped about it then I get two interviews in the same hour from Cornell and Dartmouth ..
One rejection. 15+ schools waiting.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I was looking at your MDapps and you mentioned how being 20 might be a detriment. I couldn't post on there so I figured I would do it here. I am also 20 and was concerned going into this process that people might be biased against me and question my maturity. However, I think that your application, EC's and especially how you carry yourself during your interview will speak volumes about your maturity level than some arbitrary number. So keep fighting the good fight for us young'ins😀

Thanks. Cornell was pretty nice although I'm not crazy about the tiny dorm rooms. I love your avatar. I just watched the episode where Roger was Laura Van der Booben and tried to seduce the guys at work to sleep with him/her. Hilarious:laugh:
