Still use FA with Kaplan?

I'm watching the Kaplan video series (200 hrs), should I use the Kaplan lecture notes or FA? I feel like the advantage of the lecture notes is that I can read over them quickly because they follow the lectures closely. Reading FA is much slower, but there is also only about 1/4 of the total pages. What do you guys think?

I have the kaplan notes and videos too....honestly not all of the videos are worth watching b/c the subjects don't really need much explaining.

The videos i would DEFINITELY watch:

Pharmacology

Biochemistry (mostly the metabolism stuff)



Anatomy, embryo, genetics, micro, behaviroral are all kinda self explanatory and I'm not sure the time spent watching the vidoes would be worth it (altho if any subject is particualrly weak then it might help to watch the video). Neuro might be helpful to watch (altho I didnt) and I've heard decent things about physio (but i used BRS for physio). I just annotated those books into my FA.

Path I didnt watch or use their book b/c i listend to Goljan and used his book instead.


My strategy has been to annotate FA w/ my kaplan and other resources and then just to use my FA after that. With teh pharm and biochem i watched the videos on double time and took notes in my kaplan book, then i just transferred all of that to my FA. I think its worked out well so far!

Re. above comment on which videos to watch:
Kaplan neuro videos are USELESS. Absolutely USELESS so you might as well know now that unless the book will be enough for you, you need another source.

@ Nellyakgo, I would interested to hear why you think they are useless. I haven't watched them yet but neuro is certainly a weakness. any recommendations for neuro?

@ RySerr, I agree pharm has been excellent so far. Only other subject I've watched so far is behavioral sci, which I thought was a little long (~22 hours), but the lecturer is engaging and really drives home the important points so that I probably don't need to spend another minute on behavior/psych.

Lecturer reads the slides/the book in a Shakspearean voice. He simply reads what's in the book - no exaggeration. That's all he does. Its bad enough that he simply reads but it's made worse by the fact that he can't even read properly, he's very hard to follow.

If you find any good sources PLEASE do let me know as well. I don't know how I'm going to study neuroanatomy.

Mmm, they were sort of boring. But if you're like me and literally just need the videos to force you to go through the material (I personally find funny/charming lecturers annoying), they serve their purpose.

Boring? It was driving me crazy. I couldn't follow him through a single sentence.

I also find the ones who try hard to be funny and entertaing very very annoying. But how about the pharm lecturer Raymon? He is SUPER funny but without trying and not in a typical way. Its subtle/intellectual/sarcastic.

I just read here, within the last 30 mins reco's for High Yield Neuro as well as RR Neuro. Which way to go and why?

I also find the ones who try hard to be funny and entertaing very very annoying. But how about the pharm lecturer Raymon? He is SUPER funny but without trying and not in a typical way. Its subtle/intellectual/sarcastic.

Raymon is really good. Fischer is kind of annoying because he spends 80% of the time emphasizing the easy concepts, but skims over important details that are more testable. IMO the behavioral science guy is the best though.

I would just try reading kaplan neuro.....i found it not too difficult to handle/understand. Another source Ive heard thrown around a lot if HY Neuro, but enough recommended kaplan over HY that i just went w/ kaplan. I consider neuro one of my weak points too but when i took a diagnostic it was somewhere in the middle of my scores b/c i had just got done reading the kaplan section. So i dunno, i'd try that out first. I found that a lot of stuff that didn't make sense before was explained well w/ kaplan.

My roomie mentioned the behavioral science guy was good too, I may need to check it out b/c it is one of my weaker subjects. I thought that reading kaplan would be enough....I'm gonna study it some this week and see if it improves on my next diagnostic and if not then ill peep the videos.

All over the map here...but if you want the source with the most time-tested, high-yield stuff of the above, it's gotta be Goljan RR.

I would place Daugherty somewhere between Raymon and Fishy.
He has been teaching BS for almost 30 years and seems to know where most people will make mistakes.
After watching his lectures Im fairly confident with BS, not so sure about the stats, study desgin etc he teaches, seems to be too superficial but then again it is a review.

The neuroscience lectures really are as described above, it certainly does not improve understanding. I mean the reason we watch these lectures is not that we cant read (not so sure about the people who pay for DIT 😛), ideally we want someone whose experience allows him to integrate the material, give us a better understanding and show us some of the pitfalls. (Goljan, Raymon, Daugherty, Barone and Fishy to some extent, Seiden gives you some good clinical points in anatomy)
