I am trying to find people who are at Stony Brook right now. It can be a freshman or a senior. How is the school in terms of academics? How is the quality of the food/dorms? How are the core classes? Anywhere i can find matriculation list of stony brook undergraduates that went on to medical school? Lastly, hows the social atmosphere (kids friendly or do they look at others as competition)?

Alas I'm not a freshman nor a Senior but I will answer your questions to the best of my abilities.

-Academics- Decent in the humanities, Good in the sciences and math courses.
-Core classes- Your looking at about 500+ students in your core pre-med classes, professors are pretty nice, but it takes effort to get to know them on a personal basis.
-Food- Yeah ummm, Expensive, small portions, not to many healthy options, so yea..
-Matriculation list, Yeah I don't waste my time looking stuff like that up so I can't help you.( I can tell you from what I over hear, a lot of people seem reluctant to apply to sbu medical school)
-Social Atmosphere- A little hard to gauge, some view you as competition, most don't care just want to pass the class.

can you elaborate on this?

the fact is that a significant number of stony brook undergrads end up at stony brook med every year so it seems that the med school likes to take students from its undergrad campus. there is also an 8 year BS/MD program.

Sure, Some people feel their not adequate for acceptance. Let me correct my previous statement their not reluctant to apply because it wouldn't hurt but some feel they aren't good enough.

I heard Stony Brook Medical takes like ~1-2 kids from stony brook university.

it's WAY more than that. i'd guess that about 10% of the class is composed of SB undergrads (BS/MD students, traditional and non-traditional students) ...so more like 10-12 people
