ok, here's the problem. seems like i'm always having application problems!

apparantly, suny stonybrook never got my check and my secondary, because they recently sent me a letter telling me to get them in...i called and told them i DID a LONG time ago...but it looks like they've either lost it or never got it.

i'm wondering, considering their deadline is dec. 20th, whether I should bother sending them anything anymore considering my chances of acceptance are so slim now! i could save the $...

what do you guys think?

Is it a school that you would really want to go to if you got in?

How are you doing elsewhere in the application process (i.e. do you have interviews/acceptances/waitlists)?

How many schools did you apply to?

How do your stats compare to their avg? If they are above, I'm sure you still should have a very good chance

Probably another factor to consider in this case would be your state of residency. If NY, it does up your chances.

Some questions for you to ponder, IMO they would help make the choice for you. Good luck! and sorry to hear about all your application problems.

sorry--let me give you more info.

i'm a NY resident. my gpa is average at most schools and my mcat a little above average. not including stonybrook, i applied to 16 schools (most in NY).

i applied a little later in the game cause of financial issues, and my application has been complete since the beginning of november (at least that is when i started getting notices of completion). so far i have two interviews schedules (georgetown, urochester) and i *THINK* i have one forthcoming at suny-downstate (based on a conversation i had with a secretary there today 🙂) i haven't been rejected from anywhere yet...but no acceptances either.

i think that if i did go to a suny school it would probably be SUNY-Buffalo (i live in western new york...closer to home). that's the practical decision. the ideal decision would be to be in nyc. i did apply to downstate and all the nyc private schools. however, stony brook is a good, cheap alternative. i wouldn't mind going there at all. my only hesitation is that my app would be complete JUST before the deadline, unfortunately, so if my chances of getting in are near zero at this point--is it worth it?

Why don't you see if they cashed the check? Maybe there is some other mixup.

Maybe you could call them and ask if you did send the check would there be a spot for them to consider you for an interview?

In my opinion, I would resend the information and the check. Just be prepared to interview for a waitlist spot since it is late in the game, but the school is a good state school with low tuition as you said. As in your own admission, you applied late and you are already behind other applicants, so the more schools on the radar the better.

I agree with da pilot. It sounds like SUNY SB would be a good school to have as one of your choices if you are accepted. Also, from the interviews that you have, you are competative for Stoney Brook (nice job on getting U Rochester, a very good school:clap:  ). Even if you get waitlisted, it will still be good to have. UB is a good school, just make sure you tell them you love chicken wings!! Good luck.
