I've heard a few stories of people with 3.8 GPAs and 35s on the mcat not get in anywhere. Anyone have any similar stories? Maybe I'm just trying to justify applying to 36 schools to myself haha (although I might cut that down to 30)

Roughly 20% of those with 33 or above MCAT and 3.60-3.79 GPA did not receive acceptances in same time period
why though?
I'm hoping there was some reason behind those numbers like late application or no clinical experience that did them in. i'd like to think that 20% isn't random because i wanna feel like i got a solid shot at this
u think any of them were actually just good but unlucky applicants?

I feel like it's usually due to lack of clinical experience, not having a good list or being awkward.

this anxiety is paralyzing

One learns to live with being uncomfortable.

don't be a sleeping koala.

I could be comfortable sitting on this couch for the rest of my life but why comfort on less than adequate furnishings.

True dat.

BTW, OP, I know some applicants that are extremely well-qualified because of who they are, and I think they would be amazing doctors, but don't have the GPA/MCAT or resources to get into medical school.

I also know someone who applied to 30 schools, and only got into one: UCSF.

Sometimes you just gotta pray and hope for divine intervention. It's not easy to get into medical school, but if you apply logically and have a good understanding of what adcoms are looking for you should be good to go.

All of the above.
They were so brilliant and confident, they applied to only Harvard, Stanford and Hopkins.
They interviewed like Sheldon from Big Bang
They had no research
They had nothing but research
They wrote the most boring, uninspired essays
They wrote the most arrogant, obnoxious essays
They were a$$hole$

who knows?

You want absolutes? dont apply and you wont get in
Apply and you might get in.

Doesnt get any simpler than than
Being that my non-medical friends call me "Sheldon" quite frequently, I'm glad I was able to convince my interviewers differently hahaha

Add a late application to the list of reasons an application of any merit will get outright rejected.

LizzyM and gyngyn have written about people who yelled at parking staff, and treated Admissions staff like servants ("hang up my coat; fetch me coffee)"

These personality types do not get accepted.

At my school, we had a 4.0 hyperacheiver who wasn't content with answering the questions delivered to her, she had to answer the questions delivered to other people on the panel. My student interviewer shut her up by asking her to describe herself in only three words.

Silence.

Results: outright rejection.
