strange event on medicalgold

Last night I read a Gower posting on medical gold in which he hammered SDN for being gossipy and crude (see his response to "How important are EC's"). I felt the need to post a defense of SDN in which I noted how much people care about each other and support each other, how much helpful info i've gotten on the site, and giving an example of people's responses to the posting from "MOM" yesterday. Gower answered that he'd give SDN another look. This morning, the whole exchange between Gower and me is gone!! So what's up? Competitiveness between the two sites? I note SDN doesn't care when we recommend medicalgold. I find it all rather annoying and feel that I've been censored. Did anyone else notice? Doctora Foxy--I notice that you've been posting on there, too. Did you see what I'm talking about?

I don't see what you're talking about as far as posts disappearing on there, but I just defended SDN. I was posting on there while SDN was down last week, but now I still am.

My topic was "Gower: In Defense of SDN". I just used the post general name of "PS", not my SDN name. It was definitely on there last night with a response from him (in fact, he responded immediately, which is unusual), but it's gone today.

"Thanks for telling me about SDN. I used to answer questions there but I got turned off by the language, the insults tossed around, and the stuff that had nothing to do with medical school. I thought it inappropiate there. For those who like that sort of stuff, there are plenty of chat rooms and porn sites available. Now I'll defend Gower. He is wonderful to give so much time and effort to answering questions. I don't know how many years he has been a pre-med advisor, but he is enormously well-informed about how things work. Sadly, I also learned about medicalgold on THIS site, so it was tough to hear him say such negative things about SDN. After my (now vanished ) defense, he did agree to come back to look and , maybe, start posting again?

I used to read and post quite a few questions at Medicalgold until I got fed up with Gowers "not quiet a put down" replies. The site should be named "Gowers World". Yes you can find some helpful advise there, but I'd rather look in SDN where people are actively living the experience.

I don't know if you guys read the Finch/CMS post on medicalgold, but I think Gower dissed me. He thought my figures from USnews on the # accepted after interviewing were unreliable and that "as a senior premed" I should know that by now. WTH? Well at least I think that was directed at me. Don't ever mention USnews to gower; it's like cursing to him! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

I just checked medicalgold again and it looks like they revamped the message board. Strange event again, huh? :wink: All the posts after 4/9 are missing too.

I think it's the reformatting being done. The format was very amateur so I think they decided to make it look nicer and easier to use. (hopefully put in a search function)

momofthree: I don't know if you were referring to me, but I don't think I publicly insulted Gower. I think Gower is very helpful and I have thanked him on his message board and also told him how his SDN posts were appreciated (he has about 800 good ones!). I don't know how to personally email him anyway. I was just stating a fact about what he wrote on the board.

To the above poster: Papi Smurf quoted what Gower said above about SDN.

I understand how he and others can be offended by some stuff on here, and I have been offended in the past by some religious "discussions." But I definitely think those posts are the minority, especially on the pre-allo forum. I think SDN is like the dream group of premeds---you'll never find such nice helpful people in your school as classmates, but it's very nice to know that anonymously, people really do want to help each other out. I love SDN.

As the orginal poster, I was in no way criticizing Gower and I did immediately post a defense of SDN and he responded. I was pointing out that my whole exchange with Gower, defending SDN, had been removed from the site. It is STILL gone, even though they have restored the other messages. Gower's original criticism is still there. Note that later in this same thread I also defended Gower. I was merely wondering if the people who monitor meicalgold had removed my defense of SDN for some reason. I'm a fan of Gower's even though, as Foxy pointed out, he can be a little testy at times. He is providing a great serice to us at no cost. I have no way to communicate with him privately.

Medical Gold is a good site to ask very specific and personal questions. I was able to ask Gower some questions and he was really kind and helpful--he went out of his way to comment on my candidacy for medical school. He is extremely competent and giving--he's a retired pre-med advisor, yet he STILL helps people with their med school applications as a volunteer! Gower simply likes a little more propriety when working with applicants. And he's not afraid of giving you blunt advice. I for one appreciate frank feedback--it gives me a realistic assessment of the choices I have to make in this med school application and selection process.

I've liked both Medical Gold and SDN. They are different forums with different atmospheres, and applicants can benefit from both.

OP: here's what happened to your post on medical gold. I think when SDN went down, they experienced a lot of traffic (or maybe it's just the time of year)

O.K.
We had some major traffic over the past couple of weeks. To make a long story short, the website was overloaded. I tried to salvage as much as I could, I apologize for the messages that were lost. I don't know where they went but they don't exist anymore on this website. Once again, I apologize for any difficulties this may have caused.
